  • Eastern Florida

Ok now, I am going from Cincinnati OH to Alexandria VA(by Amtrak) and then to somewhere along the eastern coast of Florida, question where should I go and is there anything to see? My traveling companion is pretty much handicapped and I am not a whole lot better.I will have a rent a wreck so I can get around..here are some of my station options, train #97

And no I don't want Disney:-)Plan on trip for january so HELP...I usually go west on my train rides but my companion prefers the single level passenger cars.

    Hi Steppenwolf,
If I am interpreting your timetable and request correctly.
I would recommend. Charleston SC Savannah GA and Jacksonville Florida as nice places to visit. from Jacksonville St Augustine is just a short drive and lots to see and do in a small flat area.
Daytona Beach not too much further in the car.

Haven't been in FL in over 20 years so I am kinda open but as I am typing..mmm..I have never been to Key West, take the train as far south as I can and then drive there? My mind is racing with ideas now..thanks Phil..I think you gave a little spark to my travel plans

The best way to see Florida is on the annual Key West Ride. That being said, go to the threads and have a look. See if anything there interests you. I like St. Augustine myself. Florida still has a lot of natural beauty hidden away. Jacksonville to Key West is a lot of miles, so you're likely going to have to pick a corner to explore.

Many thanks guys you really got my creative juices flowing.
If I end up taking the train to Miami I can take a bus tour(1 or two days) to Key West..cheap.If I spend the night in Key West I am guessing that is not cheap

I am kinda getting excited now,I have to check with the motels(have not picked any yet and bus company) to make sure they are handicapped capable,my travel companion is not in the best shape:-(
All my other train rides have been west,Seattle to LA and to New Orleans and pretty much everything in between. So this will be new track miles to meMy XS11 and Amtrak....my favorites..............

Don't forget to check VRBO for lodging. It's often where the best deals are.
