I recently opened a Yahoo e-mail account and find it very slow. Is this typical for someone using DSL? Is g-mail or hot-mail faster or do I have computer issues? I don't seem to have issues with other sites. Thanks

I've used yahoo email for years, and never noticed a problem. When you say it runs slow, do you mean that the page loads slowly, or after you send a message, it takes a while for it to get to its destination?1980 XS850SG - Sold

It runs slow. Seems like it takes forever to load. Sometimes maybe 20-30 seconds. Looks like it's just me, or my computer. It just seems odd that it the only site I seem to have a problem with. I use both Yahoo and G-Mail, and don't notice any difference in speed. You will notice a difference in speed if you dump DSL and go to cable internet. I've never been very impressed with DSL.Current Ride:

Just out of curiosity, what Browser and Version are you using?? That along with your CPU speed could be compounding a DSL issue. Standard DSL speed certainly is slower both upload and download vs cable internet -but- if you are only seeing the issue on Yahoo then something else might be going on. BTW how 'rural' a location are you / what is contracted speed from you phone provider? That unfortunately makes a difference too. What about your 10/100 ethernet hardware. Likely integrated on motherboard. You can run www.speedtest.net if you want to check.
I use both Yahoo & G all the time and there is no speed difference.

I've used DSL, then recently upgraded to U-Verse (though still technically DSL), and I actually have better speeds than the T1 at the office. It's all about how close you are to the DSL hub. I had a friend at the end of the street who had nothing but problems with the same DSL service because his line came from the opposite direction and was just too far from the hub. The cost of cable and lack of benefit has meant that I have never seen the need to switch.1980 XS850SG - Sold

I live right in the middle of BFE. Cable is not an option. I used to have dial up so DSL is a major upgrade. Download speed is 2.99MBPS. As far as browser do you mean Internet Explorer? No idea what version.79 F full cruiser, stainless brake lines, spade fuses, Accel coils, modded air box w/larger velocity stacks, 750 FD.

Question: how much "stuff" is in your Yahoo mail? Something to consider. If you got a 'big bunch' of emails and contacts etc. then logic says a bigger file takes longer to download than a smaller file. I just tested my Yahoo email and it takes about two seconds to Open my Yahoo mail account. Takes about one second to click between emails. Even with the speed difference (my 30 vs your 3) yours should pull up in 10 seconds or less, maybe 20 seconds max even with local line congestion.
Being in BFE you likely have some traffic congestion issues with your neighbors. However, 2.99 baseline is fine. Before digging into IE you should check how much stuff you got stored in Yahoo mail.

Also check again if anything or just Yahoo mail is slow. It could also be your security settings. It could be your browser. There are some known issues and browser compatibility issues. The internet is constantly changing as is Software and Hardware specs and Security. Content being pushed is remarkable, whether you want it or not. Problem might also be between the version of Yahoo mail you are using vs browser version or setting. I will send you a PM with some things to check. BTW, I use Mozilla FireFox v 17.0.1 as my primary browser. I don't like IE.

I got your pm Jeff. Thank you. I have Microsoft XP. I bought my computer Feb 2004 so maybe I need a few upgrades. And I'm in a bit over my head so I'm afraid to do much of anything. Was unable to find the properties in the IE help section. Will try again later.79 F full cruiser, stainless brake lines, spade fuses, Accel coils, modded air box w/larger velocity stacks, 750 FD.
