  • At the Mercy of Ebay.....

I may well find myself in a position of trying the Ebay/ Paypal buyer protection plan. I recently bought THIS item(s).

So when the package arrives today, the guides are in the envelope, but not the tensioners. So I have a message in to the seller asking when I should expect the tensioners, why they were shipped separately. I anticipate an answer that they were not included. I read the description carefully, even copied and pasted it into Word to search it for any place it stated anything pictured was not included. Not a word of it anywhere. So at least I know I did not miss it somewhere. I honestly did not have any inclination the tensioners were not part of the package until they did not show up.

Anyway, I hope the seller tells me they are on their way, he just missed getting them in the package. If not, then I hope Ebay/Paypal live up to their hipe on buyer protection.

You would think by the picture that the tensioners were included. The description says "tensioner guide set". Very deceiving. I agree that the seller should have stated that the tensioners would not be included.

This type of mis-selling is too common!

Looking through the listing it is described as a tensioner guide set

....if it was just the guides why include tensioner in the description?

....guide and tensioner and also described as a set implies its the whole lot. Without the tensioners it ain't a set

And theres 4 really decent photos, each one showing the tensioners in good detail. Those tensioners were included in the sale and he should send them!!!!

On a positive for Ebay, I've just received a XJ11 starter motor, bought for the start price of $1.50 .......and he sent it! top bloke!!

        On the same subject,
this week i've just sold, or not dependeing, a set of rear indicators for an XJR1200.
I stated in the ad that there were no stubs or nuts, which hold the indicators on.
Sold for £10 plus p&p, the buyer gets them and then tells me that they are useless to him and he's says not happy, because he can't mount them on his bike.
WTF, i told him the condition. So i've refunded him and reported him to ebay. Just waiting for their response, but i'm going to persue this and the little prick.
So it's not just sellers being dicks it's buyers aswell.

FJ. I agree, there are folks who buy without knowledge and get disappointed. Did not see your ad, if you showed a picture of the parts without the stud and hardware, and described it as such, then the buyer got what they bought. If you showed a "stock" photo of the parts that had the hardware, but clearly stated in the item description it was a "stock" photo and what parts were not included then the buyer should have read the ad.

I am a very wary buyer. I do carefully read the item descriptions as it is WAY too common on Ebay for people to have something in the picture, then in the description tell you your only buying one piece. Take THIS add for instance. Careful reading states it is the fuel valves, and the detailed description does eventually get down to clearly stating it is only the valves and the tank is not included. Alot of feckin money for fuel valves if you ask me, which adds to the confusion as to the tank being included, but it is a reasonable ad. I've seen ads with a picture of say both coils, but the descriptions all say coil, in the singular. I ask before buying if I am buying one or two.

When I unpackaged the parts, and saw the tensioners not in there, the first thing I did was go back to the ad to see if I missed reading the small print line at the bottom of the ad where it said they were not included. Figuring if it said it somewhere and I missed it, its on me.

PHil, I am giving him a day or two to contact me back, if no return message or the return says not included, I will be implementing the return policy.

I've gotten very careful about eBay; if there's even a whiff of uncertainty about a listing, I'll ask before bidding. I've missed out on some apparent deals a few times that way, but I haven't been burned in a long time either.

Your seller has been around for a while and has decent feedback, so it may have been just an error.

Good News...and a Thumbs Up for this seller.

Got a repsonse from the seller....

"My mistake. I remember shipping it. I will send the tensioners out at my expense on Monday. Sorry for the mix up.

                    Thanks

                    John"

So I am pleasantly surprised. Everyone makes mistakes and I certainly appreciate the honesty and willingness to address the problem.

I recently sold an item to a fellow member here. Really hard for me to make it to the post office at lunch. Wife was making a trip to the post office on her way home from work to ship a bunch of holiday packages. So, I ask the wife to pack it and send it for me when she takes her stuff. Got a message that the part never showed up. Had the wife contact the people she sent stuff to, see if there was a mix up. Got a message back from one asking what the heck it was she sent them and who the cash was for (I had bought something from the same member).
