Rand McNally 7" screen, hazmat truck routes, weather alerts along entire route.
It's huge and 450 dollars, but worth every penny to me.
Navigon 5100 MAXX was avery nice unit but like the other 5 gps's I've had, just dosen't last over a year in my truck.

        OK,
I voted for the Garmin because I think we have one. At least, my wife says "Carmen knows how to get there" when she's using hers in the Buick.
On the bike I'm old school. Rather than attempt to use a gadget I cannot work too well, I pull off the road and take out a map. I can understand one of those and they don't cost much neither.

          That's the spirit Fred.
These young punks probably don't know that real MEN use 10 year old AAA maps, and a magnetized screwdriver suspended from a string to navigate with.

Hey CZ, I can orient a map, read the coordinates, set an Azmuth, scale it out, and know my pace to get from point A to point B with a compass, or the magnetized screw driver.

It just gets much tougher when your following a road, and trying to change the radio station, while chatting on the cell phone and keep an eye out for the next turn. So I like to have little Suzie tell me when to turn, it's almost like having SWMBO sitting next to me while I am out of town.

Actually, what I find most useful is I can get off the plane, rent a car, and pop my GPS up. With only voice commands, I can ask it to find my hotel and it gets me there. I can ask it for food choices along the way, or while I am at the hotel and it tells me all my options. I can see at a glance the closest gas station, so I know when to pause and fill up with no worries. Those little devices pack alot of information in that saves me hours.

                Hi Don,
that's because you are poor. Otherwise your Limo driver would do those things for you.

I tried those Limos and drivers before Fred, all I got was some crotchety old git in the front seat that kept pulling over and yanking out a map to figure out where to go.

                    Gps

I have had a couple of the Garmin GPS units. Most recent that I use on car and bike is the Garmin nuvi 1490LMT (see link). I have a handle bar mount for the scoooter. I installed an accessory plug in (cigarette lighter) outlet on the fairing and can be used for other than GPS - phones, music, etc.

Has a nice (big) display. The best feature is the traffic. This is an option on lesser units. It has free lifetime map and traffic updates. I know that a lot of the GPS units are designed for off-road apps by being water proof. Don't think that option is necessary, esp. for what it costs.

I use the Droid, usually with Google but am working with a couple of others just for curiosity at this point. Don't need a mount as I don't take the time to look at the display just use the voice through BTooth and listen to the BiB (bitch in a box) get excited when I change my mind about where I am going.

BTooth is nice, no wires to flap or tangle, Droid is usually in my pocket or charging in the fairing pocket.

It is so accurate that last month while we were on a super slab we got diverted into the opposite lane for a couple of miles due to some road repair and it discovered that and got very excited about the fact that we were going South in the Northbound lane and told me so in no uncertain terms.

Constantly udates itself for free also, that is hard to beat. It can do real time traffic and take voice commands too and most likely several other things that I have not discovered or tried yet. Plus it is almost always with me anyway.
