I am a huge electronics guru, and read MANY reviews from very reliable tech sites before I buy anything. I ended-up buying a good Nuvi model from Walmart for my girlfriend last year. You have to check the Sunday ads, as each store ALWAYS has one of each on sale for less than $100. You kinda missed out on the big Black Friday sales, however, cyber Monday (this Monday 11/26/12), you should be able to find a good deal on one.1979 XS1100F

I can get either of those I listed for under $100 right now, the nuvi being the most expensive.
The one I'm looking at is the nuvi 50LMLast edited by BA80; 11-25-2012, 10:55 AM.Greg

There are some times where price is irrelevant when it comes to electronics at the big box stores. However, there are other times when price is actually a "tell". The Nuvi is more expensive because it is a better GPS. Now, this is not just my opinion based off nothing. I did my research on these two models over a span of two months. I bought both to make sure my girlfriend would never have any issues. I ended up choosing the Nuvi.1979 XS1100F

I use my phone (Google Maps), and attach it to my bike via a car mount.1979 XS1100F

That's what I have been using also but I keep the phone in my pocket or in the fairing and use earbuds for voice directions. I'm just thinking a dedicated GPS would be easier.Greg

Hi Greg,
I like the Nuvi models. For motorcycle use the RAM mounts are excellent and on sale here:
http://www.gpscity.ca/?utm_source=gp...m_medium=email
Also an excellent site to compare different models.
Lifetime map updates is a great value as buying updates can cost as much as the original unit.... which is why I have two
Traffic is provided by a "lump" in the power wire which is less convenient on the bike as it also has to be in the baggie to make it waterproof.

I like the cheaper TomToms Less than $120
Make sure you get one that shows direction of travel up and not just the 3D view, 3D is good in town and inner city freeways for complicated routes, 2D better on the high way as it shows a little more ahead.
TomTom also includes traffic cameras and some speed traps. Ram Mounts are good, a plastic sandwich bag when it rains saves the cost of a Motorcycle specific GPS $700 to less than $120.
I use Tyre http://www.tyretotravel.com/download-tyre/, free version for route planning, works with Garmin and TomTom.
I also use the TomToms POI along route function to find gas stations. It lets you temporarily select a gas station of other POI and then resume your route without re-entering the itinerary or destination.

I use this with my phone on my bike: http://www.rammount.com/Products/Mot...t.aspx#/wizard
Personally, I think Google Maps does a great job of getting me where I need to go, and since I already own the phone, why be redundant and buy something I already have. Plus, I can play music in the background while listening to navigation.1979 XS1100F

The one I'm looking at is the nuvi 50LM81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

I've had several Magellen GPS over the years, and been happy with them. But I wanted full voice interaction. As in never hit another button on the screen. I use the Garmin Nuvi 3950lmt. It is my best tool with the amount of traveling I do all across the country. It is completely voice activated, and comes with lifetime maps. Now, for putting on a bike, I am not certain.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
