What to do with old magazines

High bros-
I haven't been on here in a while, partly health, partly restoring a 1980 Special that I bought which has been stored under a tarp for 8 years!
I have boxes of American Motorcycling, Cycle World, (going back to the first year,) Cycle Mag, Walneck's Classic Cycle Mag, + miscellaneous other mags dating back to the late 50's and early 60's. I've been shlupping them around and storing them for years. Unfortunately they weren't well stored: they were all lovingly pored over by an enthusiastic youth, (me) and stored at one time by a busy adult (me,) in a damp barn, resulting in many of them being glued together my moisture. They are musty and some are actually moldy and I cannot have them around me since any mold triggers my increasingly acute bronchitis.
I hate to throw them away, so what do I do with them? Your suggestions would be appreciated.

I tape mine together in bundles and shoot the hell out of them.You may not be able to do that with your condition though.I also shoot those phone books that come all the time.

Hi Ed,
any that are still readable and not puking mold spores, leave them in your doctor's office waiting room at your next check-up.
The rest, alas, dump them in the recycle bin.

Burn em if you can, Maybe roll them in to paper logs, other wise a landfill they are biodegradable I assume. Sounded like an awesome collection.

You do I hope understand that paper is made from wood and that most wood that gets damp and is stored in a dark enviroment grows a very dangerous mold just move it and spores go everywhere. Normal healthy people can resist it but anyone that may be ill or on oxygen the mold can in a short time become a death sentence. If they look moldy its best to seal them and burn them in a hot fire if possible and wear a mask.

Papa Bear 1950 reminded me that when I get some mags I don't have any interest in, I tie them very loosely in bundles, all most twice as much string as needed and soak them over night in a old water drum. Then I take them to one of Missouri's unatended shooting ranges and check the bullet penitration of my current loads. If yours are mold damaged, I would burn the bunch as someone ( a child perhaps,) maybe unaware of the danger and handle them.

ViperRon, your post in particular inspires me to let go of 90% of the mags. As time goes by, I find myself, more and more, confronted by the Buddhist
doctrine of non- attachment. I've let go of my bladder, my prostate, half my teeth, my XS11 Special which I watched burn up ( after spending weeks and many bucks rebuilding,) my 17 year old dog who I had to "put down" recently, and more. Two weeks ago this Sunday I went into Emergency with acute bronchitis, and they kept me for 3 days. I know mold is a definite trigger, and I have to get rid of those mags. SWMBO has been telling me, but what does she know. Thanks for the help guys!
