    Just a note from the EAST!

    Hey there folks,

    Just wanted to let someone know that I might loose power over the next day or so as Sandy come rolling by! If so, I won't be able to access the site and such, so just wanted to say so both for members here as well as new potentials that are trying to join/register via the Contact Us email link!

    Tested the generator, got another 5 gal. gas can and filled it for a total of 13 gals, topped up the cars tanks, got the groceries, secured the house and yard, ran the 3 extension wires from shed to house. Hope I don't have to use the generator, but ready to go.

    You folks all stay safe. Hopefully no one gets hurt. Hope you have plenty of supplies to help you get through it. Take care your in our thoughts.

      yeah, everybody is freaked out here, buying up all the water and food. After the last storm, nobody wants to take chances, some people were without power for over a month. Be safe.

        TC etal...hope you are all ready and hope you dont need to rely on anything you have set up...just hoping this will turn out less serious than is being reported...but its better to err on the side of caution than not....after seeing what goes on down here with just a 3" snowfall I'm not surprised folks are stocking up on all the essentials...we here are pretty much out of harms way...so to say...just a little wind and some clouds.

          be safe everybody,were expecting high winds and flooding rains here in upstate NY. hopefully i'm ready. generator ready extra gas for for generator and truck,food,and wood in for woodstove,as long as tree's stay where they belong,should be fine,if not,chainsaw ready to.hopefully were not getting what they say.Some towns around here still aren't rebuilt yet from Irene. You have no idea how many tons of fill stone I had to move last year for washed out roads and bridges,

            A quote from KING-TV's web site.

            "A magnitude-7.7 earthquake has struck off the coast of western Canada and a tsunami warning has been issued. There are no immediate reports of damage.

            The U.S. Geological Survey in Colorado says the quake hit the Queen Charlotte Islands at 11:14 p.m. Sunday (sic, I think they meant Saturday) local time (0314 GMT) and was centered 96 miles (155 kilometers) south of Masset, British Columbia.

            The National Weather Service has issued a warning for coastal areas of British Columbia, southern Alaska, Northern California, Oregon and Washington state. It says the warning area includes Craig and Sitka, Alaska

            The USGS says the 7.7-magnitude quake shook the area and was then followed by a 5.8-magnitude aftershock several minutes later."

            Up-date: It turned out that the earthquakes were farther north that the first accounts indicated; Closer to the Queen Charlotte Islands about 200+ miles north; when the Tsunami hit Hawaii the size if the waves were smaller than thought. False alarm!

            Oh by the way, The Steelers just Tsunamied the Redskins....ROTFLMAO

              Goes without saying not to treat it lightly. Issac rolled through here a month or so ago and it was a light-weight cat 1. After Katrina we know how to prepare for a hurricane but Issac still knocked power out for over a week in much of the greater New Orleans area and flooded much of the outlying residential areas. Even shut down I-10 for three days in both directions just west of here.

              Soooo, hunker down and best of luck to you all. We are thinking of ya.

                    Sandy's aftermath

                    I'm very concerned about my relatives in NJ and NY...havent heard from them since sometime early last night...And many members of this site as well...Hopefully they'll find a way to chime in here...
                    If anyone has heard from folks like Randy in NY or Earl in PA pls pass it along....

                      NJ and NYC got socked this storm was on the magnitude of Katrina in terms of its destruction. NJ shore is in ruins and alot of beachfront is now ocean...Lower Manhattan is under water and NYC is virtually cutoff...with only the Lincoln tunnel connecting to NJ open. It will take more than a few weeks to recover...more like years...very sad day

                        They got the snot beat of them.... My nephew lives right outside NYC and his home phone is 'no longer in service' and no answer on his cell...

                        I've been through extended power outages and they're no fun.....

                          Well TC, and all the rest of you up there, hope you came through it all right. Knock on wood but up here in sunny Wisconsin we have not seen it yet although Lake Michigan is kicking up something fierce. Normal weather here for this time of the year, temps in the 20's and a bit of sun here and there. Roads are still dry so I am still putting a few miles on the Fire Dragon but that will come to a halt all too soon.

                          Soon as ya all can get back here let us know how you did!

                            Oh Sandy, the Aurora is rising behind us...

                            ...sorry can't get that tune outta my head. We had an amazing amount of rain and wind yesterday, with the peak, during the wee hours this morning and diminishing to a steady drizzle now with calmer winds.

                            Still have power.

                            No damage for us, but a few trees down around the neighborhood. Good time to replenish the stockpile of firewood

                            Got the week off from work out of it

                            The mountains have saved us many times from havoc coming from the East.

                            On the Eastern side of the Appalachains not so lucky.

                            Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected.

                              Long Island got socked...

                              Most of the shore towns were under water, luckily, we are 2 miles off the south coast, so no water here, but the winds took out hundreds of trees in our neighborhood. We were the luckiest house in the county...



                              That tree would have split the house clean in half....



                              Meanwhile, 15 miles west, the toys were squirreled away snug in my friends garage...



                              The forecast was bleak...
