  • What to build? What to build?

So i have a bunch of parts bikes in the shop and im thinking of building another bike this winter. I am really leaning twords building a bobber.

I know this will not set well with all you original guys but building an original cost more than i have available. I already have a cafe and really would like the bobber look. How have you guys modified and fabricated the frames?

I want to do it right not just eliminate the shocks any information would be appreciated.

Did you ever hear the saying "it went over like a fart in church"?
I've made some bobbers but never removed any shocks. There are a few nice ones around. It may take a while to get some good comments around here.

There is a definite difference between makign a bobber, and hardtailing. There are several nice bobbers I have seen over the years. One of the first I saw that looked well done was by a member that went by "DaBubble". Of course, XS11lover has made more than a couple along a similar theme that turn out really nice IMO.

Now, as for hardtailing, I have rarely seen any started that were finished, but Nightengale has one that looks pretty nice IMO. Just not something you would get me to ride, I value my internal organs.

        OK... Who farted in Church?...
It is your ride and you are welcome to share the parts you do not use while making that smell...
Heck it is your ride do what you want to do! Some of us will not be able to help as much as we could if you were doing a stock bike, but I am sure you already know that. Carry On

I found this bike while google searching xs11 bobber projects and this is pretty much what i had in mind. I love the look of this bike and the site where i found this has the entire build step by step pretty much. Doesn't look too painful so as soon as i get my shop cleaned out ill post some pics of my progress. Thinking about using my 81 tank i have laying in the corner. Any one ever seen a 6 gal tank on an 11 bobber before?

                  Hi GT,
it depends where you are located. Some States in the USA have DMVs that are quite reasonable. In other States they are Nazi arseholes. Here in Saskatchewan you check the bike VIN with Saskatchewan Government Insurance and if it ain't on their hot list and you have a receipt they will register it for you.
                  About that bike photo,
No fenders. Rain will fly everywhere and the front acts as a fork brace.
No rear suspension. Your chiropractor will approve; your spine won't.
Wrapped pipes. Act like a towel to soak up rain and rust the pipes out.
OK, it looks nice but as for riding it further than the nearest biker bar, I don't think so.

Yeah that would be a good start. That has the 81, 6 gal tank like im thinking of doing too. And i also do plan on running with some type of fenders.

So ive gotten started on my bobber. Its hard to find time to get in the shop and see her. but she is starting to come along. bot the frame chopped and welded and got the motor off. Im not sure what motor im going to use yet got a 78 sitting in the corner that im thinking about robbing off of since we cant seem to come up with a title. Im planning on using the 81 tank that ive been holding on too, and ive been looking at seats and fender. Not too sure on them ether. I like the looks of the old indians with the large fenders but not sure with the shaft drive how many modifications ill have to do. i have plans on getting some pics up i know how much you guys like them. Ill keep you posted on my progress.
