  • The Adult Beverage Thread..

I stopped in Tennessee somewhere for gas, and they had a bottle of this stuff. It sounded horrible, so I thought I'd try it. I usually don't like ale and I usually don't like stouts since I don't really like to chew my beer, and chocolate? Got it good and cold and it is ummm... yummy! Only a slight aftertaste of dark chocolate.. not sweet at all like a normal ale.

So what's a good one you've tried that may be something other than your normal every-day drink? (Greg.. Busch doesn't count) What was the worst? I tried one years ago that was billed as being the highest alcohol content beer in the world. That tasted as aweful as when I was a teen, we'd steal a little bit from every bottle of booze in my parents' liquer cabinet, put it in a glass, pour a beer in with it, plug our noses and swig it. A couple years ago, Randy brought some Arrogant Bastard Ale to the XS East and that ranked right up there with the worst I'd had as well.

I realize tastes differ because there are some that actually LIKE that Arrogant Bastard, so don't be too hard on people who's opinions differ.

I am one that likes Arrogant Bastard Ale, though it is far from my favorite.

Favorite beer would be St Bernardus Abt 12 a Belgian Abbey Ale that is heaven on earth.

I tried a beer at the Blue Star Brewery in San Antonio called a Stout Float ...just what you think. A Stout with a scoop of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla in it. I thought it would be terrible and wanted to order another it was so good. They have in the winter (jan and Feb here) a Barley wine called King William that I enjoy while it lasts.

I dont like fruity beer much. Had a microbrew serve me blueberry beer once. Good thing I was a little drunk or I would have spit it out.

I remember telling you that chocolate stout would surprise you...hadnt had that one before, but others like it and I am amazed at how well beer blends with other flavors.

+1 for Chocolate! I don't particularly care for dark beers, but a local brewery here makes a chocolate that is to die for.

The worst I've had was from a half empty bottle of Hot D@mn that had been left in the trunk of a buddy's snowmobile trunk over the summer...
Healthy is merely the slowest rate at which you can die

Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better. I’ve always believed this, in spite of the trouble it’s caused me. La Bière Du Démon ??

"This 12% alcohol by volume lager is touted as the strongest lager (blonde beer) in the world".

Had some of that in Paris. Gotta say, not good. I like strong beers and Belgian Trappist beer but this French 'Devil Beer' is just nasty. I don't see the point of it. In a pinch would rather have Everclear or if lucky, some white lightnin'.

Best ever...Corsendonk Pale Ale. Has picture of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ child on the label, brewed by Belgian Monks. Not enough Os in Smooooth.

Worst ever is no longer made, Burger beer, was brewed right here in the 'Nati. In my educational years (college) we had a bad beer tasting contest, Burger was the hands down winner. Beat out Black Label, Gobel, Rolling Rock, and a multitude of others.

Don't like chew beer, so I must be a low-brow peasant... my fav is Miller HighLife in bottles (cans ruin the taste) but it's gotten really hard to find in bottles. And not that gawdawful Genuine Draft crap either....

If you happen to come across them, I recommend a variety pack of Dundee beer. It's brewed locally to me in Rochester NY and its good stuff. I like the IPA and the Porter but wont turn down any one of them.

While there is no Bad Beer some are better than others

When in the US I look for Yeungling Lager from "Americas oldest brewery"
While "Life is too short to drink cheap beer" was a catch phrase from Warsteiner, which i like, I only buy it when it is on Sale.
Others from Germany include DAB Holsten, Bitburger, and some others I can not spell. FAXE from Denmark. From England Lanacaster Bomber and Spitfire are my favourites. Kronenbourg when in France.

                          La Bière Du Démon ??

Nope, it was Samichlaus Beer. I did some reading and it says it is only at 14%, but back when I tried it, it was in the low 20's % alcohol. It has since been replaced as strongest beer by Sam Adams Utopias Millennium II at 24%.

Rasputin... Rainier used to be the cheap party beer back when I was in high school. Last time I bought some while visiting Washington, they've gotten a bit "High Brow" with a price to match. Sure made me sad when I went to tour the brewery in Seattle and saw it's no longer there next to the higway.

I don't care for American beer. By that I mean Bud, Miller, Coors.

I like Murphy's Irish Stout. Only draft.

Best IPA. I'm serious about this one!

                            I like ale.

I spend a lot of time in Germany. The beer is all good. Still, I prefer what they drink in the UK.

Up here Rainier is $8.68 for a six pack. That is about half of what the premium beer(for lack of better words) cost. Some of the normal beers here go for up to $14-$15 bucks for six. It is called a sin tax and they hit us with it hard. We also pay about $14 bucks for a 20 pack of cigarettes.
