Now that you have attained big boy status, you can step up to this,We used to call 3.2 beer, Training beer. I wonder if the alcohol percentage is different than here in Canada as Rainier is only 5% here, as are most of our beers, unless you get the strong version which is usually about 6.6%. That is of course not counting any specialty beers, just the normal every day Bud type beers.

If that link doesn't work, you can do it the old fahioned way. <http://articles.nydailynews.com/2009-12-01/entertainment/17940845_1_utopias-samuel-adams-boston-beer-co>Last edited by CaptonZap; 10-12-2012, 08:51 AM.Leave a comment:

I don't deny it, that first night there at IH I got kinda wobbly and had to head to the tent.
When I lived in Texas I was used to it but I've become a bit soft in that area.

Geeze, I do recall the days of 3.2% beer and 6% beer. Of course, in those days anything over 3.2% was marketed and considered 6%, so 3.5% was sold as 6%. But in those days, around here anyway, you could buy 3.2% at 18 but had to be 21 for 6%. By the time I was 18, the law had gone to 19 to drink beer. I was also unaware that anyoen still made a 3.2% beer. Of course, these days, to get the federal money for road improvements, Ohio has gone to 21 to drink alchohol period.Leave a comment:

I didn't think 3.2% existed any more, unless you drink Miller Lite.
I had no idea!

I've drank a lot of that Heinekin dark as well and agree with you. Not too heavy. Only place to get it here, though, is the liquer stores since it's higher alc. % than the 3.2 the stores are allowed to sell here. It's about $8.50 for just a 6-pack here, so my tastes wandered elsewhere.Leave a comment:

My usual favorite is Heineken although at a local bike bar they have Bittberg that tastes pretty good. They have some others on tap whose names I can't pronounce or remember, one of those - a dark one - is very tasty.
I do like the fuller taste of dark beer, particularly dark Heineken which is produced only during certain times of the year, my dad use to say when they cleaned the vats once a year.. urban myth? I don't know because in P.R. it can be had all year long. In the vein of dark beers, the Mexican XXX, not the XX beer is very good. And the top of the line for Mexican beers, which is VERY GOOD, is Bohemia, a very fine brew for my palate. On the Belgian side Stella Artois is a very fine brew as well. Had an hot Argentinian GF who used to get it for me when we went out on her boat last summer during her boating education. She is of Italian extraction and used to provide me with a homemade Limoncello that was awesome !! But that's another story.
Still, for fishing trips, summer outings, and extended wrenching in the heat.... Heineken is hard to beat for $21 a case at Costco...... as a breakfast of champions !!!!

My brew of choice is Newcastle Brown Ale. I am not much for stouts, even though I really wanted to be. If I've been doing yard work or working out in the summer, a galvanized bucket full of ice, Coronas, and lime slices works wonders to recover my positive attitude.
My wife and I took a vacation to Puerta Vallarta a few years back. We took a tour boat to snorkle and dive the local reefs, which was a blast. On the way back in, they provided Sol beer, free, all you can drink. I was really looking forward to getting a cheap buzz before siesta time, but I couldn't drink the stuff, free or otherwise.
That might be the true measure of bad beer: wouldn't drink it for free!Leave a comment:

The Oly brewery is still there, but has been closed for years now. Olympia did make some really good beers, they just didn't sell them here. I worked at the brewery in the mid 80s (installing an environmental upgrade) and they would bring samples of all their products to the construction lunch shack a couple times a week after our shift ended. They had a far-east 'export blend' that was really good, and the Mexican export was good too. But in those days the alcohol content was too high to sell in grocery stores, so you never saw it.
Olympia had been a family-owned brewery for years, but when the heir took over it went downhill fast. He got busted cruising the restrooms at a local park (known for years afterward as the 'Olympia Fairy Terminal') and a big part of the family fortune got spent keeping him out of jail. Miller came in and bought them out, but all the advertising in the world couldn't shake off the 'queer beer' name that got attached to the brand and they closed the brewery after not too many years....Last edited by crazy steve; 10-10-2012, 09:38 AM.Leave a comment:
