  • Flag Mounts

    So I want to start doing more Patriot Guard rides, and I would really like to add some flag mounts (one on each side of the rear tire) for the escorts. Needs to be strong enough to hold a 3x5 flag at highway speeds. Anyone have some ideas on how to do it?

    One of the regulars at my local watering hole has his mounted to 3/4" plywood base which is attached to his luggage rack. Seems very sturdy, but its only a single large flag.

    I too have thought about it Nate and thought about building a plate that bolts to rear frame section that has flag holders welded to it.

      Hi Nate,
      check the flag poles diameter and get some steel tube that they'll fit into.
      Weld 1½" x 1/8" flatbar tabs to the tube so that they'll bolt onto the rear footpeg mounts at the bottom and the upper shock mounts at the top.
      Adjust the flatbar lengths and angles to give the flags the rake and spread you want.
      Cap the bottoms of the tubes and weld on a nut at the top for a pinchbolt.
      Paint to taste. You might chrome them but I'm too cheap.

        By bolting a pipe to rear footpeg mounts and UPPER shock mounts did you not effectively create a hardtail? Or does lower footpegs not affected by swingarm?

          Swingarm is separate is either is those points John.

          My bags are in the way of all those spots though. This may be a good point to talk to mindwebs and see about getting a set of indestructible bag mounts like his and just weld on don tubes for the flag poles to slide in.

            Hi Nate,
            you never said there were bags that will get in the way.
            If whatever holds the bags on is sturdy enough, bolt the flag tube stays to that.
            If not, make the stays from 1½" x 3/16 flatbar and make them long enough to reach behind the bags.
            And John,
            the top shock mounts AND the rear pegs are fixed to the frame.
            Tying them together cannot rigidify the swingarm.

              Current bag setup is not strong enough to support the bags AND the flags. That's why I think I will just have to upgrade the framing of the bags to do everything.
