  • New Steed

Traveled from Atlanta, GA to Kansas City, MO yesterday and today to pick up a new ride. Really good shape, but I'm sure I will find a hundred things to do to it.

Guy gave me a price that I could not refuse. Traveling back home with it today and tomorrow. Actually found the post for it on this site. Thanks to whomever that was? May bring it to the rally. We'll see.

      Broken Link

Well, I am sorry for the broken link.

I saved a couple of pictures from the link on my laptop, but am unsure of the procedure to up link them to this site. Will need some help for that.

Go to "XS and XJ 1100 bikes for sale" under the "Buy, Sale, Trade Forum" and scroll to the bottom of page one (next to last post). Click on "big red machine". That is the bike that I bought.

WOW!! That is a very very nice looking bike. I am not a full dresser fan, but the paint on that bike is really nice, and blends it all together well.

Congrats on a really nice find!

                The story goes?

The guy I got it from was the second owner. Original owner had done everything when the bike was pretty new. Had all items on bike painted/pinstriped to match. Painter even signed his name on the tank. Looks like most, if not all, ad-ons were Yamha dealer available parts.

Needs to be cleaned up. Has a lot of electrical items pulling off of the system. May have to upgrade charging system. It cranked right up and was hitting on all four and had good throttle response. Probably will have to add fuel filters, etc., etc., etc.

Looking forward to getting it (almost) perfect and riding it. And, with the help from this site, I know that is doable.

Sure was a long drive to go get it, but seems to have been worth it.

                    Nice.

I have never seen rotor covers like that.

                    Cool find.

                      Me Either

I have never seen rotor covers like that either. There are also covers over the calipers.

Apparently, the original owner wanted everything that Yamaha and the dealer could supply to put on this bike. I am sure that he was very proud of it.

The story goes: Original owner died some 10+ years ago. His son inherited it and all he did was crank it up once or twice a year during that time. So it was in the family of the original owner from 1981 until about just a few years ago.

The PO I got it from purchased it and did not put many miles on it for the several years that he had it. The bike was local to Lee's Summit, MO - just outside Kansas City.

                            New Steed is Ready

The new Venturer is ready for it's first adVenture with me in the saddle.

It was pretty dirty when I got it. So cleaning and polishing was on the first order. Didn't get it exactly where I like it yet, but it is clean enough to take out into public.

Got her tagged and titled, changed fluids, synced carbs, changed plugs, checked valve lash, installed ACCT, and replaced all those light bulbs around the rear with LEDs (15 of them?). I had spoken with Tony at Oregon Motorcycle (designer of the upgraded regulator/rectifier) and he suggested doing that to help maintain the battery.

So after 5 days of tedious labor, she is going for her first road trip Friday.
Headed to NC mountains this weekend to meet up with some friends. And we will see how she does.
