  • I'm still around....

Some may have noticed that I've been absent from the list for a while (or maybe not...) but I've been dealing with some turmoil in my life. SWMBO decided to run off mid-July after 22 years of marriage with little warning, leaving me with any number of issues to deal with. And you don't need to offer sympathy, this time (yeah, this isn't the first time) I've had it and am proceeding with a divorce; this is going to prove to be a good thing. She can't seem to understand that giving our money to other people is bad; like her deadbeat 30-year-old son who can't stay employed, or even more mind-boggling, to a 'friend' who after getting caught trying a scam was about to lose her house, co-signing a loan with her then the 'friend' promptly dies, leaving her holding the bag (all this was done without my knowlege) for the loan. You'd think after 22 years a bit of 'smart' would rub off, but apparently not....

At least one good thing has already come out of this; she took the 'good' car (or at least the newest; a 2000 Focus) with her, leaving me with my not-worth-fixing LT1-powered Jag (trans has failed, replacement costs would be about 75% of the car's value) and my rarely used Ford truck that runs great but gets single-digit fuel economy. While I have running motorcycles, they're not too practical for grocery shopping, etc, so I bought a new car.....

2013 Mustang GT/CS, with a six-speed manual; damn but this thing is fast! Looked at Camaros, but they're slower/more expensive/less fuel efficient when equipped the same; Mopar doesn't offer a V-8 manual trans in anything but the Viper and I wanted a stick. A bit of sticker shock involved (the sales tax on this was more than I totally paid for the only other new car I ever bought; a new '71 Pinto. $2200 out the door... things have changed!) but WTH, you only go around once..

There is some karma involved; two days after I bought the Mustang, the Focus started running badly (she managed to put 250K on it in 12 years) and she called to snivel. After finding out I had bought a brand-new car, she was going to 'show' me; she went out and bought a '99 Mustang convert and called to tell me what a great deal she got.... after trading in the Focus, she 'only' had to finance $7500 to get it. High book on that car is $6K..... she's not getting smarter. The real irony is she hates the cold, and this winter she'll end up really hating that car.... Convertibles are not practical daily-drivers in the northwest in the winter.

Anyway, she's walking away from everything (my pensions, equity in the house) because she doesn't want to disclose her shady/stupid financials in front of anyone (particularly a judge) so it looks like I'll come out really well. I've still got several rounds of legal matters to take care of (after having the hassle of re-doing bank accounts, credit cards, etc) but hopefully I'll be able to get back to my mod duties soon. I was hoping to finish my XJ project for sale in August (and post some XJ how-tos) but that's now a winter project...

Just a bit of venting, I'll be back soon....

Sorry to hear that Steve. Though it looks like you'll come out better off in the end, it still sucks to hear of any relationship ending that way. My boss is going through a similar setup right now too, and it's just a big pain in the butt. Enjoy your new ride though!

I don't know whether to say I'm sorry or congratulations. I feel ya man.

I've been trying to figure out how, or if, a womans mind works for the better part of my 53 years.

I've gotten to the point where I like being single. The only person I have to trust or answer to is me.

Out oif all that I got this, She is a fool that will never learn, and you got one he!! of a nice daily driver there!!! Most important part to me is the daily driver piece!!

seriously though Steve, no matter hwo you choose to look at it, it still sucks majorly to end such a long relationship, and I do feel for you. Take your time, this place will be here whenever you get back around. Time to take care of you and your dog now. And do not knock that truck, my very first ever truck was a 1970 F250 with the 360 and 3 on the tree. I still miss that truck badly!! And fix that bloody motorhome would you!
