  • I'm back and looking for another XS

Hi everyone in XS land. I made it back from Afghanistan and am now looking for another MIYAMI. I miss the old girl but know she went to a good home (Paintman) I relocated to El Paso Tx. Looking for a 79 Special or an 80 Midnight Special. Trying to keep the spendage down but need to be able to get it home so the bikes gotta run and drive. Don't want to spend more then $800.00 for a basket case/ project, $1200.00 for a good running bike but just not pretty, $2000.00 for a bike that's good to go. Gotta have a clear title. It will spend many days on Ft. Bliss and will be well taken care of....Here's the kicker. I have a 250 mile travel radious without haveing to put in for a milage pass. The good stuff....Cash.....

    250 miles from El Paso?

Ha good luck! j/k - I have seen some out there that are nice (no rust there!)

    Check out this one:

He has it on consignment here for $2500 and it looks worth it.

Welcome home and thanks for serving this awesome country! I wish you could have found a nicer place to land than El Paso. I spent a while there back in the '80's. I was assigned to 8/43 ADA Patriot.

Guess I'm gonna go and look at some bikes this weekend. Thanks for the tip on Rio Grande. I haven't ventured out on that end of town yet. I did check out Barnett Hogley and was not impressed with the prices of some of the bikes. Way to much.

The old guy who is selling it has been trying for a year....member here but started out at $4,000 and inched down over time.

To be honest if I had $2500 lying around I'd have bought it already because I know its been through when he built it up.

Probably needs a carb cleaning by now though

Just put my 1980 XS special up for sale. Interested?

I just gave up on my bike. It does not run and I have no time to devote to it. Am asking $700 and am in Carlsbad, NM. Well within your driving radius.

Take a look in the classifieds if you are interested or give me a call 575 200 6985

OK...So I go down to Rio Grande Shovel-head yesterday to check out this "G" model. Asking price $2500.00. The guy I talked to said it was being sold on consignment. Took a little bit to get it started but sounded really good after it was running. Throttle was very responsive and the typical upper motor "Looseness" noise was not there. A few things though that make me think it's not a $2500.00 bike. The paint on the tank has a chip, When parking, the handle bars hit the fairing (watch the fingers). Looks like it's running a little on the lean side (Gold exhaust pipe color). The frame says made on 6/79 and is a 3H5, the motor numbers match, Must be an 80 model made in 79. Can't be an F cuz no kick start shaft. The forks have a fork brace but not by "T-Kat" as well as rubbers on the upper part of the forks. Round headlight in the fairing and everything else is square. Missing one mirror but has 2 "big truck" spot mirrors mounted in the fairing. $2500.00, I think, is too much. If the owner of the bike would identify himself, maybe we can work a deal. Max from me on this bike though is around the $1500-$1700 range.
digitalsam,,,,I'll give you a call to check out your project.

I dont think he will go that low. That fairing alone is worth about $600 on top of the bike price. But you never know.

I think its a 1979 Standard that was sold new in 80 and therefore titled as such, but it has 79 rotors, seat, grabrail and gauges.

Guess sometime this week I'm gonna drive to Carlsbad to check out digitalsam's bike. I think I may just buy them both. Digitalsam's and the one with the custom fairing. One I can ride to save some cash from the fuel my Jeep "The Honey Badger" drinks. The other can be the SWMBO's ride.

I wonder why they didnt put slotted rotors on the G?

Well the project bike that digitalsam started is now in my garage. I will post updates as I go, if and when I get a chance. Looks like the Army may be wanting to take up allot of my time with the "Last Minute Decision, needs to be done yesterday" stuff. We'll see. Still being optimistic.
If the other bike at Rio Grande with the custom fairing is still available in a month or so, I may pich that up as well.

That was one of two colors for the 80G's. The specials were far more popular in 80, and even more so in 81. But yes, the specials got the slotted rotors and the standards didn't, the H was the only standard that got slotted rotors, and it's frame was actually a standard/special hybrid frame, and used the special exhaust but standard brakes with the slotted rotors.
