  • FIAM Horns are the BOMB!!

My XJ came with them on and have been off for the better part of a year and a half. Now that I'm getting ready to sell it I took the horns off my G and put them on the J. I then installed the FIAMs on the G and went for a ride....
You sure get noticed when you press the button. Well worth the electrical mod to make them work, relay and all.

Make sure you use a relais or they'll fry you're horn button spring. It may take a while, but it will happen.

        Math,
I did use a relay, took a bit to figure out the correct wiring scheme but I got it.

        trdriver71,
Here's a link to and Amazon sale. They have the kit for under $20. Mine are not red like these. Maybe they have other colors..

Select Horns, Aftermarket, then NAFTA, and then scroll down the page some till you find the El Grande Twin, P/N 74100 to see them, but yes, they are mostly for cars, but these are SMALLER designed and draw much less amps than other horns of similar loudness. But as suggested above, would recommend the use of a RELAY that will have the power going directly from the battery thru the relay to the horns..the horn button will only need to carry the small power needed to trigger the relay!

I had looked at air horns at Harbor Freight, but they were listed at 20+ amps draw!!!! The 10 amps is at the limit of the AUX fuse block slot on most bikes, so you will probably want to install a direct tap off the battery, but still install a ~15 amp inline fuse.

That's exactly what I did TC. Tapped off the battery with an inline fuse. I just wanted to get them operational. Next mod, later on, will be to tap into the main/switched power line and make them "switched" so they only operate when the ignition switch is turned on. Now they are hot all the time, meaning that they work even with the ignition switch turned off.
And you're right on the money, the horn button grounding only serves to trigger the relay.
You do need the relay for these to work on your bike.
                  They're LOUD as hell !!

Quick question: the grill that goes over the front of the horn, what is it for? I have one FIAMM horn, but it doesn't have that grill. Is it necessary?

                          Bassman,
All I can think of for the purpose of the grill is to keep big bugs out of the throat of the horns !!!
My grills are off because I'd painted them gold top put them on the J, but now I'll paint them black for the G.
                          Pics to follow......
