If you have a Bass Pro shop or other boating outlet you might get a generic galvanized trailer fender and rig an attachment. It would be in keeping with the bobber/streetfighter look.

@fred I've got an old rear fender off of an xs750 that I am planning on adding. Do you have any tips for mounting it like you suggested? I've tried to look at where I would attach it to and can't seem to find anywhere that wouldn't be in the way of something!

XS750 rear fender is a 2-piece; plastic front & chromed steel rear halves?
Do I remember that the rear part hinged up to get the wheel out?
Well, where it's supposed to bolt to is long gone and it won't quite fit on an XS11 frame anyway even if your frame was complete.
To fit that rear fender as a hugger I'd look at making an 11-gage sheet steel support that attached on the lower shock bolts and arched over inside.
The join between the steel and plastic halves has bolt holes that'd attach the fender to the arch bracket.
To keep the arch from pivoting it'd need a steel strap Teed to it that followed the inner fender curve and bolted to the front of the swingarm.

@Frugaltech Thanks for the tip, I think that would look great! I am planning on painting the tank and the side covers a creme white to go with the brown seat and I may as add some flash to the exhaust as well.

@Rasputin The exhaust does have a muffler on it and it really is quite pleasant to ride. It only gets loud when you want it to! Unfortunately, I don't have any more info as to who makes it and how, it was on the bike when I bought it. If you give me some specifics, I could take pictures of what you'd like to see more of.

That exhaust is incredibly cool. Does it have a muffler or baffles of any kind? Could be a tuning pain if it does not...JAT. I like the look of the exhaust but my old ears could not stand it if it were not muffled. Maybe give us a wee bit more info on what you have done there...enquiring minds want to know.

Does anyone have any suggestions for an inexpensive rear fender? I will have to do some modifications for it to work since the back part of the frame has been cut off, but I'd rather not get sprayed from the wheel. - - -

Hi Andrew,
buy an aluminum generic 1/2round rear fender and mount it hugger style (so it hops up and down with the rear wheel like on a Vincent)
That way you keep the rear light as is.
Paint it to match the front fender or also buy an aluminum front and polish them both.
BTW, your fork will be even flexier than normal without the stock front fender,
a TKAT fork brace will fix that right up.

Update: It LIVES!!!

I got everything put back together, changed the oil (what a pain with a 4-1), got gas in the tank and cranked it up.

If I didn't love these bikes before...I certainly do now! That sounds is so beefy

Finished my basic rider course today, off to the DMV tomorrow to get officially legalized.

The bike is almost ready. I switched out the fuse box Friday night, now all I need to do is change the oil, mount the gas tank, mount the blinkers, hook it all up and ride!

@CaptonZap He is directing the light source to where we are looking!

@Fred the PO certainly did mess with the wiring, so I purchased a replacement wiring harness and that is what is hooked up right now so I am not sure what that means for the headlight coming on when it is not started...

The engine will crank when I short across the solenoid, so I am thinking that the solenoid is the issue. I tried connecting the blue/white wire directly to the negative on the battery (bypassing the starter button) and it still did not turn over.

Also, this XS having only one seat means I get to buy another one with two seats in the future

@fred- thanks for the tip, but SWMBO might take offense at my trying to pick up chicks!

Well, I got it to at least turn over last night, but not when I push the starter button. I will spend tonight troubleshooting the off/run/off switch and trying to figure out why it will not fire when I push the button (the headlight comes on when I turn the key, but no power to the starter button).

I will also be taking apart the ignition switch and cleaning it!

so take SWMBO for rides?
I suspect the PO has messed with the wiring, the headlight & gauge lights should only come on once the engine fires up.
Shorting across the starter solenoid power connections should activate the starter motor even if the starter button is kaput. Pull all 4 plugs, lay them on the head still connected to the plug wires and spin the motor over to see if you got spark.
