Hey Slow Mo. Just a quick ask to remind us what fix you used. It would seem that particular fix was flawed. We all want to fix stuff like side covers, and fairings Etc. A fix that failed is as good as a fix that worked in real life. Just asking cause many of the fixes I have tried have worked and an equal amount are nothing more than Bunk

i used a dremel tool to groove the crack and abs cement to seal it up i think i will buy a fiberglass patch kit and overdo it if you know what i mean it is right by a fairing bolt,,ride safe ,,slow mo!

I think you are heading down the right path Mo. Without some type of fibers to tie those pieces together that glue joint will not hold up to that kind of tension.

          Hi slow mo,
dunno what your fairing is made of but if it's fiberglass and you are using fiberglass to fix it, there's a first step that I always use.
Get everything ready, the mat cut into strips, etc. etc., grind the surface right down with a sanding disk so the glass fibers are visible then immediately apply the resin and glass.
It's the immediacy that makes the patch bond on nice.

I had a crack in one of mine and the trim was dicked up as well. I bought the trim repair kit from vetter and used the extra glu to make my repair.
I drilled the crack at both ends then used a small dremel bit to rout out the material between the holes. I mixed up the glue and forced it through 'till it was coming out the inside. So far it has held up well.

I would use a metal mesh rather than fiberglass. Fiberglass REI. doesn't really bond well to abs, you need to use abs to repair abs. You just need to reinforce the repair, if you embed some metal screen (like from a screen door) into the base material then fill in the crack.

I have used fiberglass with ABS glue with satisfactory results. Screen wire would also be good, and can be pre-shaped. On some internal areas I used a piece of an old t-shirt liberally coated with ABS glue. It's on the ring that holds the headlight. It's been holding well for a couple years now.

That was supposed to be fiberglass resin not REI.

I too have used fiberglass matt with abs cement, but not in a structurally important area.

Fiberglass resin does not stick well to ABS. I found out the hard way. My last repair to a high stess area in my ABS bags was to use fiberglass cloth and the ABS glue to bond it to the plastic.Grind/sand down to the parent plastic. Lay the cloth over the cracked area and slather it down like you would using resin. Two layers may be nessary depending on the area cracked. Once it dries, its easily sanded and prepped for paint. If you can get to the inside of the crack and use the same process, your repair will be even stronger. This repair process has proved sucessful on my bags that cracked at a high stress mounting point.

I used abs shavings dissolved in acetone to replace a broken bolt corner in a fairing. Junk TV housing was the donor materiel , run a drill thru it to get shavings.

                          fairing

I have broken the front where it mounts to the bracket. I built up the damaged area with fiberglass, drilled another hole on each side about 3-4 inches back. Then I fabbed two pieces of metal, about 14 ga to fit above the place where the bolts go thru. Cut to shape, drilled the three mounting holes on each side and bolted it down. 6 years later, still no problem.
