Got on the scoot to make a run to the grocery store for something to grill this afternoon. So I'm sitting at a red light waiting for it to change and the car in front of me starts backing up for NO APPARRENT REASON and backs right into my front tire!

I pulled up next to her and attempted to voice my opinion just in case she didn't hear my expletives as I was fighting to keep my bike upright but I was unable to draw her attention from the cell phone conversation she was involved in.

I thought seriously about kicking a dent in the door of her BMW but better judgment got the best of me..


Watch out for the dumb ass smart people in their fancy cars. They don't give a $hit!

I hear ya. I am amazed at how unconscious people can be while behind the wheel. There is no law against talking on a cell phone while driving in Idaho, so every time I'm out on the road you see some idiot or another doing something stupid while engrossed in an important conversation about what's on TV tonight.

Because we are more vulnerable on two wheels, we just need to be that much more attentive. Sigh....

In my miss-spent youth I was given a ticket by a local deputy for DWHUA...
Instead of going to court, I had to explain to my father (a career Marine) why he could expect a phone call the next day from the deputy.. I didnt have to go to see the judge on that one but would have preferred doing that.

My cousin's boy just got all new plastic covers for side of his R6, a helment, a new jacket, and 2 days off work running tests in hospital. I am sure a nice piece of change in his pocket I can assure you is comming. He memorized the plate number and just fell to the side when the guy in the Hummer backed into him trying to switch lanes stopped for the light. Calling the police for a hit and run still laying there in the middle of the road he had full sympothy of the police when they arrived.

Makes me wish I was smart enough to play dead instead of just getting mad when I had it happen to me.

I will sure enough try to remember next time.

Had something similar happen to me a year or so ago. Right after my accident that laid me up for three months. I was on the bike for the first time since the wreck, actually showing it to sell it. As I was heading back to the house, I was on a busy four lane stopped at a light. I look in the mirror and see this big SUV getting way to big in the mirror. Sure enough, he bumps me from behind. Bent the license plate and almost knocked me down. Talk about a rude to start back into riding after a bad accident.

Now, I was just getting this bike running right, it was dying on me if I let off the gas, and the starter was going out as I found on my way to the sale, would hardly start it when hot, started great cold. So I was not going to let it die, so I did not get off the bike. When I looked back at them, the idiot just threw up his hands as if to say "OOPS, Sorry", but he was to busy laughing with his buddy about something to look sorry. So when they pulled next to me to turn at the next light I look over at them with a glare, his buddy gives me the "get over it" look. If not for the fact I was still healing up a bit, and I did not want to have the bike die and not re-start, I would been off the bike and in that truck.

This was on a really quiet side street near where I live. We were the only 2 vehicles on in that intersection. I have absolutly no earthly idea why she started backing. It made no sense at all. It was like 2 seconds from the time I saw her moving and the time she hit my tire. I was frantically looking for the horn button but didn't hit until she hit me.

I did have the presence of mind to release the brake so that I just got pushed back a little but it threw me off balance and I had a hell of a time keeping it upright.

What REALLY pissed me off was she acted like she didn't see me even when I pulled up next to her. BITCH!!!!!

Greg you need a real freakin horn...try a nautilus dual air horn...139db guaranteed to wake up anyone...you will need a dedicated wire harness and relay though...but well worth it...beats screaming expletives that they cant hear anyways

She probably had no idea any of it happened. She was tightly sealed in her air conditioned car, with the blower motor running, maybe the radio to, as well as the phone to her ear.

This is why I always use a bluetooth headset when I use my phone in the car. Using a phone in this manner is no different than rocking out to your radio as you drive. With both hands free and my head free to turn as needed, I find I do not miss the details you can when your holding the phone to your ear and can not turn your head as well. They are only $50 for a decent one.

Greg you needed a get back whip to the taillight....THAT would have gotten about $300 of her attention and easily blamed on the backing up part.

I have a set of horns off of an F150 Ford pickup. Yes, they are loud but ineffective if you don't have the time to sound them. She heard them, especially when I was next to her drivers window. She knew what she did but was unwilling to even offer an apollogy.

Wouldn't really apply here but if I am out walking or running and crossing a street whenever someone gets to close or cuts in front of me I do all that I can to put at least 1 dent in their car. Several dented hoods and doors out there from me.

Your a cop, you can get away with that. I'm just a long hair on a motorcycle. That's why I refrained from kicking a dent in her BMW.

Attitude test is the most important!

Plus, I don't stick around long enough to let them find the dents. Kick or punch car, yell and curse a little, them keep going about my business. They badmouth me for a second and drive off.
