  • Spring Cleaning... a bit late

Been riding my Sporty a few times here recently, finally gave it it's first major yearly clean-up today....

Not too bad looking for a 19 year old. Clean enough to go to the big city now....

Don't hassle me, all my XSs are apart....

      Really Nice!!!

The reward is worth the work.

What method do you use to clean the wheels.

My XV 700 has the one year diamond shaped spokes which I'd like to remove the slight surface oxidation.

I was thinking maybe 0000 steel wool by hand or is there a better way with a power tool ?
1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )
      1979 XS1100SF (stock-euro mods planned)
      1984 XV700L Virago (to be hot-modded)
      1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim (semi-restored DD)
      1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)

Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

I've used a strip of linen (from a old sheet or pillowcase) about 1" wide X 12" or so long with some mild metal polish. Wrap the strip around the spoke, then pull the ends back and forth. Takes forever, I only do it when the wheels are off the bike for new tires. In between I try very hard to keep the spokes meticulously clean....
