  • its cold up here

ok guys I couldn't wait any longer
I wanted to tear down and redo my bike this winter
but being in maine and having an unheated garage i had to get inventive, i did
check out the pictures, I hung plastic from the ceiling made the area just bigger than the bike, with a path around it and used a little k-1 heater, this weekend it was about 6 degrees out and i was inside my plastic tent, inside my garage, and it was about 65 degrees in there

it works great in the tent
so far i have dissambled the bike from the engine to the rear
        and reconditioned everypart
now I'm working from the engine forward
        took the forks off tonight
going to bring them into work and use paint stripper on the clearcoat, can't do that in the tent,
when i'm done, i'll have removed and reconditioned every part
except for the motor and exhaust, the exhaust is oem and i would like to stay with oem but its getting real hard to find a serviceable set

              Sparkles

Good one xswilly, nice clean bike, looks good

How do you guys keep your bikes so clean?

Oh I get it, you never go off the tar........
I guess even if you did go off piste in Maine, you'd be on grass, not dirt!

Come on now, the XS is so well behaved, you can extend your range to the really really back roads [so long as it's not greasy or deep sand] and if you come across some guy herding sheep, you can help him out!

I took my XS up some fire tracks in the southern Flinders Ranges [Behind The Bluff near Port Pirie, I took my R75/5 Beemer there years before], and it was great, till I tried a hill that was so steep, I ran out of traction.......
Then it got interesting, 'cause if it's too steep for the back wheel to grip, there is only one way to go.......once I got the thing turned around [not a lot of room on a fire track!],
and..........if it's too steep for the rear, the front wont do all that well either.

It was a good lesson in gentle braking on rocky gravelly stuff......if the front locks up........next stop bottom of the hill.

Humour me, my bikes's off the road [in the shed] waiting for some guy to get around to checking out the mysterious ignition black box, so I'm satisfying my XS urges by cruising this site........this world wide brothers [and sisters] in XS is great isn't it? [The puns just go on dont they?]

              Great stuff all!
Cheers, and great riding in fair or foul climes.
