  • Used Parts Place

Where do you guys shop if your in need of a used part and can't find it on ebay or here? I'm in need of a seat for a 79 standard and am having one heck of a time finding one. Any help would be appreciated.

    Greg's garage

I usually shop in Greg's garage (BA80) because he has so many parts bikes

Seriously, If you can't find it here or eBay, Craigslist is about your only other good option. Cycle Salvage places always charge an arm and leg for parts...I wont use them.

Try Searchtempest.com to search Craigslist for a wider area or even nationwide, then decide if you find something what to do about it.

Go ahead, click on the bikes - you know you want to...the electrons are ready.

You can try an internet search for 'motorcycle wrecking yards' and get lots of results, you just have to pick though those. You'll find some that will deal with out-of-area customers, just don't expect any parts to be cheap or easy to find. Expect to pay up to $200, maybe more for a decent used seat. Being patient and watching here or eBay will probably save you money.

Seats for any of these bikes can be particularly hard to find because of the very limited interchange between models and their ability to rust away to nearly nothing...

There is (or was) a source for new reproduction '78-79 standard seats; look here: http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...highlight=seat
The eBay link is dead, and shipping from Britain may not be all that cheap, but it's a source.... Try contacting James, he may be able to give you more details.

              Looking for the flat seat.

Thanks for all the info guys, I'm going to start looking at those options. How hard would it be to fiberglass a pan and make my own? I'd kinda like some kind of solo cafe racer style seat anyway.
