  • Bobbing a 79SF

OK to start some of you probably gasped a little when you read my title, please read on.I picked up a 79SF with the intention of bobbing it out. I have my stock 81SH and I thought it would be fun to have a stock and a bobbed bike of the same looking model. Well I was sitting in the garage and the problem began. Like many of you I'm somebody that appreciates the original look of these bikes and old cars and such. Hell, I won't cut down a tree on my property unless it's already dead. With my 81 I have done some things to it but nothing that can't be reversed by just removing the different parts and bolting the old stuff back on. The only oem parts I don't have are the original tires and the hand grips. So back to the 79, this bike is intact except for the exhaust, and I do have a fairly good stock exhaust set on the wall. Original paint, no dents ,only one small piece broke off of one of the cooling fins and I have that little piece. Now to do the things I'd like to do to bob it out I'm going to have to cut the frame and other wise remove and change things. I JUST CAN'T DO IT. There I said it. So now what I'm thinking is to pick up a frame where everything else has been toasted and cut that. That way if needed in the future the matching numbered frame and motor could be put back together. I thought about buying another bike to bob but I'd just end up with two bikes staring me down. So what I'm asking is how tough would it be to pick up a compatible frame from someone on here. I can't do it just right now cause we're moving in a few months and I've already got enough stuff to haul. So I'm really talking some six months or so down the road. Any suggestions would be helpful. (As long as they're not physically impossible or repugnant.) I' ll watch for your thoughts.

    Already bobbed

Id say buy one already bobbed, but those folks ads I see are way too proud of their "custom" bikes to get one afforable unless its a failed project.

    Good luck.

Yea that's the problem with customizing anything. Very few people get out of it what they think they put into it. Too, I really want to do it myself.

I'll sell you a bobber frame, with the title.lol.Although, I'm sure shipping would be expensive.
Too bad you are so far away, I would trade for a stock frame.

I boxed up a frame and shipped it a while back. I would't say it was cheap, but the shipping from Georgia to California was not a deal breaker.

You can "bob" a bike without cutting the frame.
