  • Be Safe!

Very nasty accident on the highway here on Sunday. Pick up truck stopped on the shoulder suddenly decided to make a U-turn in front of a Harley with a passenger - never had a chance. Rider and passenger survived but were airlifted to a larger hospital with severe injuries and many broken bones. I heard the passenger underwent an amputation but not sure if that was a finger or a major limb.

Just shows that even a vehicle that appears stopped can try to kill you.

Just a closing note - the 18-year old truck driver has a sign painted across the tailgate "My other ride is your Mom" Just threw this in to emphasize the mindset of this guy. i.e. no respect.

    Be careful out there.

There has been local chatter about organizing a "Motorcycle Awareness Ride" to get the word out to 4-wheel operators that they need to pay attention, just as 2-wheel operators need to be ultra aware of their surroundings. I contacted a dealer in Kelowna who has shown interest in putting this together, perhaps with a charitable component to help out the injured parties. Turns out they were customers of this very shop and were riding their brand new bike at the time.

The crazy thing is that it happens not only to bikers but to cage drivers too. You just don't hear about the car accidents nearly as much.

The BEST safety equipment you have is right between your ears. You can't trust ANY driver to do what they are supposed to do.

The best defense you have is between your ears but the problem is there is an increasing problem with many younger people today that they have no reguard for life. I know youth has always had issues thinking they are invincible but there is a difference. There is a growing group that is only me me me. They rob you they kill you they run over you like you are nothing and there is nothing you can do to get to them. The theory is that people learn from mistakes but this new mentality is different. They know the risk and really sincerly do not care.

My real issue is consider it like this, not only can you not trust other drivers to see you or look out for you but you have to consider some might be looking to get you in a tight spot and do something to kill you.

There are some that have no sense of value of life. It's all about them. They will cry at the trial about the mistake they make to get off and brag about it later.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

That Ron has to do with family values that have been destroyed over the past 4 decades. But, that will lead to a whole discussion that would end up political and isn't allowed here.

Another part of it. But then, this IS just a motorcycle forum and that doesn't affect us. Right?

              Young kid died

Here in San Antonio in the morning...riding an R6 , zipped around slow traffic at a high rate of speed in a hurry and right into the back of a stalled pickup. Knocked the truck off the freeway. Helmet was still strapped to the seat. Kid died at scene.

                Justice, I hope.

Here in Sherburne county, Mn. A 21yr old was apparently angry that someone passed him. So bright boy decides to catch up to the car and pass them on the shoulder doing about 90mph (witnesses and the investigation said) he lost control of his car when he hit the gravel and shot across in front of the car he was passing and across the median and killed two people on a bike clear on the other side of the road. My wife works in the court section in the county and the feeling in the report is that the people on the bike didn't even know he was coming. He's sitting in the county jail on manslaughter charges. It's said he should get at least 10yrs. We'll see.
