This horn draws alot of current and if you were foolish enough to jus hook it up using the stock wiring on the bike will find out real quick that those wires will fry right up...
    Hi Max,
I don't know what a black bear's mating call or it's battle cry sound like although I'm sure they are both loud.
I do know what a Stebel-Nautilus horn sounds like because the Pumpkin has one and I KNOW that it's loud.
Lacking a comparison so I have no idea if the bear would want to beat you up or have intimate knowledge of you but what I'm sure of is, he'd sure know that you were there.
And Zookey, those horns are super-loud and can be a true life saver, so go for it! Remember, it's father's day tomorrow.
And yes! Use the relay. Despite what Max sez,a direct connection is unlikely to fry the horn wires; what happens with a direct connection is the horn bleats instead of blasts until the horn button burns out.

I got the bad boy horn by Wolo that harbor freight sells and that thing is pretty freaking loud. It comes with it's own relay but no wiring so I needed to run my own wiring from the battery (through my fuse box) and the relay. If I hit the horn button now it sure gets everyone's attention.

          Big bear

I met a big bear out here on a mountain road too narrow to turn around. He was about 20 ft away and when he stood up and faced me I got a little scared. He was a good 4-5 hundred pounds and looked mean. A quick throttle blip made enough noise he decided to leave. My plan was to hard charge him and if necessary I would run into him if I had to. 600 lb XS should do a lot of damage.

thanks for the tips on the horns guys!! Definitely looking into possibilities..

@planedick..... have you ever seen a bear hit by a car/truck/semi? Bears roll, and roll well. After they stop they get up and go again a lot of times. The only ones I have ever seen dead after a collision are the ones hit by loaded semi truck/trailers. I have seen cars torn up after they hit a bear then the bear got up and hit back. I would not suggest any contact between bear and bike.

I don't suggest what my husband did either..... but he is too old to listen to reason.

              Note to self...

Stay away from bears... and get a louder horn.
              lol

Okay, so I already knew those two things anyway.
Got the first part DOWN - we don't have bears around here.
Coyotes and mountain lions are another story.
