...which is why he kept going, reasoning that an a-hole on a motorcycle wasn't worth his whole career, and his colleagues would concur. Is there no civil recourse?

Slowmo, he must have been running for help. Six little reasons would have turned it into a hit and go to the hospital for him. hes just as guilty as someone breaking into my house in the middle of the night.

Your riding gear is the real world equivalent of a "cloak of invisibiliy"
Ay least that's how I think of it.

Seems its a contant issue in this country that local police, Sheriffs, etc think they have a right to decide what laws they enforce. I myself have called the State Police because of issues with local Sheriffs department. I wish there was no such thing as local police only a State police department so there was at least some consistancy.
We do have laws in the country but we have no fair enforcement. I feel it is a shame the riders have lost their lives or been injured by people who should have been jailed.
I had a friend who was killed a few years back on his Harley and it was a clear case of manslauter but as usual they were just trying to charge the car driver with drunk driving. How ever in civil court they did take everything the drunk had.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.
