  • Rant!

Boy do I have a rant.I am so P'ed off right now.Was reading the news online and saw a couple of young riders were riding this morning and A 48 yr old lady decided she was going to take a left hand turn in front of the bike.NOW I ASK,what the hell? She recieved one ticket for failure to keep right, and the two young people were dead .They did nothing wrong, and she gets a slap on the wrist. The laws protecting motorcyclist in this country have to change. This happened in the next town over from where I live. I took the wife out for a ride today, and a lady backs her car out of her driveway in front of us,my wife is scared on a bike as it is,and this dumb B,makes me slam on the brakes.GEEZ. I yelled at her,and she blames me. Thanks for letting me rant.Drive safe out there, there's idiots everywhere.

yep, your absolutely right and as experienced riders,we know that, but don't 4 wheelers have a responsibility to? I know if,as a heavy truck driver,I turn in front of one of those little mini's and kill somebody,I will be hauled in and charged with vehicular manslaughter.what's the difference? I always drive as if a car is going to pull in front of me,but what i'm saying is,should we have to?

It's not just bikes that the idiots do this in front of. I had an idiot pull an illegal u-turn in front of my fire engine red Camaro today from the curb. If I hadn't been paying attention and hadn't had good brakes and hit them instantly, I would have t-boned her, either seriously injuring her or killing her, likely totalling both cars (hers for sure, very likely mine as well). I'm still pretty sure that she never even saw me, even though I missed her by less than a foot. It is more likely on our bikes, but being in a cage doesn't mean it won't happen there.

Not trying to "One-up" you here, but when Jeremy was killed (Montreux Blue) the woman was extremely drunk. After running a stop sign and running over Jeremy and parking on the sidewalk afterwards, she couldn't even stand without leaning against something. BUT... she belonged to one of the richest families in Arlington Texas. No breathalizer, no ticket, and not even a slap on the wrist.

A while back, there in Arlington, police were chasing a motorcyclist who was running from them. The rider crashed and died, and the family sued the police department. A jury awarded the family a hefty settlement. It's my understanding that it's now protocol to not chase a biker if they run there in Arlington. Cops are not allowed to pursue, and it now seems that what happened in Jeremy's instance is thier normal response to motorcycle/automobile crashes from what I'm hearing from a gentleman that is keeping up with the cops down there. I spoke to him after Jeremy's crash. He listens on a police scanner and goes to the wrecks and takes pics.

Maybe he can get things changed in the future, but as of right now, that woman is free to drink and kill again.

Wow, not even a DUI? How does somebody get away with that? That's vehicular manslaughter at the very least. That woman should have been jailed for years...

That's truly sick. I feel horrible for his wife. No justice on top of losing her husband. I hope the woman that killed him has horrible nightmares every night for the rest of her life and can hardly stand the sight of herself for her lack of personal accountability. No amount of guilt or shame is just punishment for someone who willfully escapes consequences for such a sick action.

Stuff like that makes me want to quit riding sometimes. I remember when he got hit but never heard any of the details. That is so very sad.

Rich people don't care about us biker's,don't you know we're all gangsters that belong in jail? I was in Saratoga one day years ago, riding with some friends. We stopped for a soda, while parked in a parking lot this lady in a bmw ran right into my bike while it was parked..I said"What the hell did you hit my bike for",her remark was,you don't need a whole parking spot. I punched her driver side window,Lol,I was young, she wouldn't get out of the car till I left.Thank God there wasn't cell phones then,or I would have been in jail. By the way,did only minor damage to my bike,XJ 650(mirror) but put a long scratch down the side of her beemer.

                          +1

when i ride i try to be very aware of my surroundings and luckily so, some girl on her cell phone came barreling out of a side street without looking or even stopping at the stop sign. luckily ive owned several dirt/street dirt bikes and have experience balancing light bikes, but i never thought my 556lb XS would have to be handled like my dirt bikes. it saved me and my bike. after all the work and effort i put in my Black Beast, it could have been the end of us both. nothing can replace experienced millisecond reaction time and total awareness.
