  • Need Ebay Auction Advice...

    Guys,

Take a look at this auction I won for 3 Fram oil filters... I was the only bidder and won it at the asking price of $6. The auction also says the shipping is free but, scroll down in his detailed description and he says shipping is $6... Looks to me he made the starting bid the cost of shipping. He also states not to use the ebay checkout that he will send an invoice from paypal with the total..? WTF is the point in the auction then?

I asked him a question in regards to these statements but only after I made a bid. He wrote back before the end of the auction and said to send him $12 through paypal and he will end the auction... Somethings not quite right here and I think he's going to try adding cost to the final auction price... Can he do that, or am I entitled to the filters for $6 shipped?

If he wanted more than $6 for the filters he should have put $6 for the shipping cost and had a make offer button... any idea what ebay upholds (the written details or what he entered in the auction for shipping cost and winning auction bid)?

Wade, the shipping I see says local pickup. Then in the ad it states shipping is $6 to the lower 48. So it appears he was ligit in the auction.

The crazy thing is that now ebay takes a percentage of your shipping charges too. I called them and argued as best I could with Habib about it but got nowhere.

That's why you'll see some things on there at a slightly increased price but with free shipping or shipping costs that are higher than they should be on some others. Pierre Omidyar needs more money to make his Ferrari payments.

        Wade,

After reviewing the auction, I would say you owe the man $12. He's legit. You are free to go to Nicholasville, KY and pick them up. If you do that, you can avoid the $6 shipping. It's probably going to cost him more than that to send them to you.

Honestly, that is my thinking as well, I started to tell Wade I would pick them up for him as I go through Nicholasville about every three or four weeks and am due for a trip through there. But I would suspect it would be more than the $6 for me to ship them out.

I missed where it said local pickup... it definitely wasnt 100% clear to me. I guess leason learned, get the answer to my questions before I bid... that being said, $12 for 3 filters still isn't bad. My local auto parts stores want $5 and change a piece plus tax so this is still a little break...

I think using the ebay app on my phone created the confusion... next to the auction bid it said free shipping. You actually have to go into the payment/shipping description to see where he wrote local pickup...

Here I thought I was getting a KILLER deal on my filters but, I'm actually only getting a good deal.

This seller worked the system. The Ebay statistics show when searching for an item most people start by searching "lowest price with shipping". By not stating the shipping (local pickup) he gets a premium search as his price only shows as $6.00. It's kind of deceptive in my opinion

Deceptive, exactly what I thought but not worth fussing about. I will make note of it in my feedback...

Honestly, I think it is a matter of technology causing the issue. I initially opened it on my phone as well, and it showed shipping as FREE. Then I wanted to see the more detailed view, when I opened it up, then the shipping read LOCAL PICKUP. So it appears the "phone app" that lets you see the abreviated view, showed the misinformation.

I think it's $12 for one at the local Yamaha shop if it makes you feel better.

Our local yamaha dealer is about 11 bucks and our Napa is almost 15 bucks so I would be very happy to pay that price plus shipping. Of course up here he would probably ship UPS and then it would cost 35-50 bucks for brokerage. I so hate what Brown can do to me!!!!

I came flying around a corner and brown smashed my car! As I watched it being drug up on to the flatbed bleeding trani fluid and oil as it slid. I thought"that's what f'n brown did for me."

I usually get them at AutoZone for $5-6 and order 2 or 3 at a time as they have to order them from Fram and it take a week or so. I usually need 3 a year if I change it every time I chance the oil.
