  • 84 inches of snow since Wednesday night!!

The official snow total for our current lake effect 'event' was 84 inches in 2 1/2 days. Wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have over 2 feet of hard packed on the ground already. My house is practically covered. I have never seen this much snow on the ground at my place since I lived here. Winter who needs this crap?

Here is the view out my garage door, luckily the wind blows through here pretty hard so the snow is not very deep:

Anybody want to come for a visit?

That's it, I'm getting a passport and I am moving to another country, Texas maybe, or Alabama. That stuff is just too close to me.

I'd rather be there than here. At least you can always put on more clothes. If it's 125 degrees outside, it's hard to get more than buck naked.

Looks like you don`t need anymore snow but will more than likely get more until things inprove weatherwise.Hope your power doesn`t go off would be real bad then.We got around 50 inches in 93,bad enough but the power was off for over 2 weeks and that was real bad.If you do get a snowmobile don`t park it outside, never would find it .Stay warm Here we have to put up with ice.

Hey, sixty six, can I bring my snowmobile? We haven't had much snow for the last five years. Last year the trails were open for a grand total of 8 days, 7 of which the trails were worn about to the ground. That is very hard on the slides. I put on about 75 miles all last winter. I heard the people out east are stealing all our snow. Rover

Sorry no snowmobile...I just plain hate winter. Anybody is welcome to bring thier's but the trails closed since there is too much snow to ride on. After the groomers come through it should be awesome!! If you are into that sort of thing

I've been reading about these Brits that are into triking the XS11. My question is has any snowbound XSive ever tried to build an XS11 powered snowmobile? I know today sleds are much faster than they were in the mid 70's when I lived in Maine, but back then the 640 cc machines were some kind of awesome. I can only imagine what they are like now

Yamaha builds an excellent line of snowmobiles. The RX1 uses basically the same engine as the R1 motorcycle, but is carburated instead of fuel injected. (Yes, the snowmobile is a 4-stroke.) Snowmobile version is rated at about 145 HP.

I've never seen or heard of a snowmobile using an XS engine, but one could exist....

Yamaha did have a V-Max series using an in-line 4 as well as twin-cylinder configurations. My old '86 V-Max is a liquid-cooled 540 cc that moved me right along at over 100+ mph (in Wisconsin when I lived there) on a good long straight stretch, though most of my miles were put on at considerably slower speeds. Here in Colorado (most riding above 6,000 ft) top end is only about 85 - 90mph.

I have a Ski-doo MXZ, and I love it almost as much as I love my XS11's. It is very fast, smooth, comfy, and dependable. The only problem I ever had with it is going thru the ice last year. I followed other snomo tracks, but did not have enough speed to cross a snow-covered piece of bad ice, and went thru. No real danger, I got out immediately, went home, got dry clothes and some equipment, and had the machine out the next day. All I had to do was dry it out, clean the carbs, and it ran again. I did this just as soon as I got it home, so the water would get out of the engine. It still runs good as ever, but balks when I get near the lake. I think it has a mind of it's own, and lets me know that it does not want to spend another night at the bottom of the lake. A close freind has a Yammie v-max snomo, but as yet, I have not ridden it. I will stick with my ski-doo as long as it keeps running the way it does, same with my XS11's. Rover
