Pretty Girl you had there buddy. I've owned 5 Pit's in my life. The one before Bella here we had to have put down @ 7 years old. She had gotten some skin disease the Vet told us was common in red nose pits that are main color white. It was like a case of mange that couldn't be treated. Poor dog was rotting from the outside in. So we took her home and let her get thru the holidays... she seemed to get better with some meds the Vet gave us... Summer came and I came home one hot day to find her laying in the bathtub not doing well... Sad day in the Shepard house. Be picked up Bella about 2 months latter... she just kinda walked into our lives and never left. She showed up with a buddy of mine. He brought her over to play with Conner (my son) and she never left.

She is sitting right behind me as I type this trying to lick the back of my head!

Now, since you like to gripe about spelling and punctuation, just because something is plural, (More than one) it doesn't mean it needs an apostrophe (') which shows ownership, or just missing letters.

"The dog's are on the couch." Wrong.

"That has become the dog's couch." Correct.

If the one couch has become BOTH of their couch, then a plural form of something that ends with an "S" just gets the apostrophe.

"The couch has become the dogs' couch"

Next class 101: Proper use of "Where", "Were", "We're"

        Class 102: "Their", "They're", "There".

Class 103: "Two", "Too", "To", "2".

I was ok for awhile, then you made my head hurt, and I knew you were addressing the wrong person the whole time.

            Weiner dog

I have a Dacshound, and she has back problems and I'm told it's common with them. They get back discs swelling and become paralized and can't control the rear end at all. When it happened to her we went to the vet and was told it's common and there isn't much can be done except this expensive operation which worked sometimes, but wasn't permanent. We went home thinking of putting her down. I hated to see her in pain so I decided she wasn't going to suffer 'till we got the stomach to do that, so I started giving her 50 mg ibuprofen every 12 hours for the pain. This amount is the same as 800 mg for me which will kill most any pain. In two days she was moving around and in 4 days she was like new again. When I told the vet what I did and the result he said, "Oh no, you can't give people medicine to dogs". About a year later it happened again and the same treatment with the same results.

We went to the lake Friday and there was a group of Muslim men who were terrified of my dog Miko. One, in poor English, kept telling the others to stay away because it was a red wolf (some kind of superstition?). Only one of them attempted to get close enough to pet him but backed out. He rarely barks and tries to talk instead. He thinks he's a 60 lb lap dog and not aggressive at all. He's a purebred Red Siberian Husky.

Aww, I love Huskies! I would like to have one, but I feel it would probably be unkind to subject it to Alabama weather.

I know what you mean Joab. I have to keep it no more than 72 in my house.
The dog was out for nearly an hour in the coldest weather we had this winter and was panting. I on the other hand was froze to the bone.
Worst part about a Husky seems to be that they think there are inside rules and outside rules. Inside he is a very well behaved dog and follows hand signals for commands. Outside he instantly goes into pack leader mode, which I am working on, and forget about getting him to follow any hand signals.
He loves to pull and I almost have him rained to pull on command. The kids have a blast with him in the winter. I have a pulling harness for him that we connect to a cheap sled and he can pull a 100 lb person on it with no problem. He can run with a 50 lb kid on it, down a dry sidewalk, much faster than I can run trying to keep up.

We just adopted a pit a couple months ago. About a year and a half old, and he's kinda goofy, and sweet as can be. I love his facial expressions. About the same size as our other one, but he's got an extra 20 lbs. on her, and he's strong as any dog I've ever had on a leash. Prong collar is a lifesaver. Here's a pic from last weekend at my folks' house where they're waiting for dinner. Left to right is Misha (their mutt), Luna (basenji/lab mix), and Sol (the pit).

This was my little pup I had before I left Minnesota. As I said, I couldn't justify dragging him down into the humid heat of southern Alabama, so he found a new home in the frozen tundra before I left. There are apparently a few breeders down here though, so I am going to go check them out in high summer, and see how the dogs look. If it looks like they are doing ok, I may look into getting another one...

                            Great markings on the mask.

Miko is a rescue. Original owner abused him and when the old man got sick and went into a nursing home someone who knew him took Miko. She was not able to keep him so we took him in.
If you'd like a red sibe, find someone with a female to breed mine with in exchange for a pup and you can have the pup. A healthy red sibe pup with good markings goes for $700+. One is enough for me. Miko is very well mannered in the house, doesn't bark unless he really should, and is very vocal (tries to talk). He gets antsy when he needs to go out so I'll ask what he wants and he does his best to say "go out". More than once I've tried to have him sit when there's a group of people around and I swear he tries to say "I don't want to" (I think got that from my daughters).

Huskies are great. Joab (yep, this username is in his honor) never really talked, but I blame that on him spending his first couple months with a Golden Retriever. He was an AKC pup, and cost me 650 when I got him from the breeder. I loved his looks though, the mask was the absolute best of the litter, IMO at least.

I dont know anyone personally who has one right now that isnt fixed, and I am still not convinced I want to bring one down here into the heat. My house is almost 50 years old, and I havent been able to get all the insulation updated yet, so in Southern Alabama summer, it gets a bit toasty in here still. Someday hopefully...
