    • I should have kept up with this thread a bit earlier. I went to college in Honolulu in the early 80s. I did my first jump with Jump Hawaii--this was in the static line days. They had a jump-equipped little Cessna and a bigger Beech for relative work. My instructor had a great line. He said, "Ok, every once in awhile the static line will jam in your harness and you'll be dangling at the end of it, towed along by the plane. If this happens, and you're conscious, put both hands on your helmet, and I'll cut you loose. Pull your reserve right away. If you're unconscious, just let your arms dangle at your sides."

It was a fun couple of jumps, but I ran out of money after my first 3-second delay. By the time I had enough to hire the crew, most of them died in a crash at the Hula Bowl. A lot of great guys. I think Byron Black's widow sold the company and it might still be operating. That was out of Dillingham Airfield, which may or may not still be there. Spectacular place to jump (or glide).

LoL They used to tell you pretty much the same thing in army jump school. If you got towed by the static line and where conscious you were supposed to put one hand on your helmet and the other hand on your reserve handle - which was a belly-wart type reserve for army jumping. They said if you were unconscious they'd foam the runway and land with you flopping around back there. Never sounded like something I wanted to try. Jumping in Hawaii, on the other hand....

I call BS on that one. There was definitely something screwy about that video. Looked like it had been doctored to me.

                    • Just because I have been going camping next to the tracks lately and spending alot of time by myself and staring at the stars and not making noise I get to see wild life scurry about their daily duties doing this and that but on one night a favorite song I used to listen to with my dad came to mind when we were in the basement when he listened to some of my albums.

                        • That's pretty cool, Bill.

Monday I had my driveway torn out, and tomorrow they're going to finish putting in the new one. It'll be next weds/thurs before I can drive a vehicle on it, but with the weather warming up, after next thursday I should be about ready to rebuild some carbs.

I've been giving a lot of shooting lessons on the weekends, so it might be best for us to do the carbs on a weekday. Like a tues, weds, or thurs if that fits your schedule.
