I joined the PGR, it seems like a good organization. Being a vet, having been a cop for a number of years and a biker, it all seemed to come together. Are there any one here belong? I haven't been to my first funeral yet but at the rate that WWII vets are dying, it won't be long. The main thing with the PGR is respect. While the organization is almost completely supported by the generosity of the members, there isn't any dues, I am abit low in discretionary funds. I also belong to the America Legion. The state organization sends a lot of dunning letters to me and I haven't joined a local chapter. I will have to see how the PGR goes.

I'm a member, been on one mission a little over a year ago, not been able to make it on a mission since then, but hope to make it on some in the next couple of months, once I get the tank paint fixed again.

Not a member, but I did attend one mission with them last year. They have missions a few times a week around the area, so you should have no problem finding one to join in on. When the KIA soldiers come into the STL airport, they are usually the escort.

        Sorry....."Missions" ???!! Really??!!

I respect what they do, and why they do it. But calling it a mission seems a little disrespectful to the folks they are serving who WERE on a Mission.

A very large percentage of the membership are veterans and certainly don't feel calling them missions. What they do, their primary mission, is the create a wall between the family and Westboro Baptist Church and their like, by simply forming a flag line that blocks them from seeing the family and the family from seeing them. All the other things are secondary, and the welcome home missions if there are both a funeral mission AND a welcome home mission at the same time with only enough persons for one of them, the funeral mission take precedence. THIS is why they are called missions.

absolutly agree. if it is a mission that you were on, then its a mission to bring you home. there was a really great movie that i think these guys were in.. it was called taking home (a name i forgot) or bringing home (name i forgot).. it really shows how the military family shows their respect for fallen soldiers.

Minnesota and Wisconsin PGR escorted us from Fort McCoy to Saint Paul when we got back from Iraq, it is an incredibly touching sight to see and experience. I am not a member, but I do support what they do 100%.

I support what they do and did not intend to diminish or take away from the repsect I have for what they do. It is a far sight different than when our boys and girls came back home in the 60s-70s. Thought about joining several times. I just do not find I have the free time to do anything with it.

The terminology just strikes me as overkill is all. Sorry if I offended anyones pride in the work they do, not intentional.

Gary Sinise (N.Y. CSI) played Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, was here local last week to escort a dsabled local vet,(there building him a new home) and the patriots did a fantastic job escorting them. Hopefully someday I will have the time to help out like that. When I was at Ft. Bragg in N.C., my last month in the Army, I was a color guard for funerals. DG,everything to do with the military is called a mission.

I am a member, but have only made one mission. California is a BIG state, and most end up in Redding, Susanville, or So-Cal. When I had the time, there wasn't much near by, and now I'm working so I STILL can't help much.
It IS all about respect for the troops, and what they do for the rest of us. When I was in the Army in the mid seventies, we didn't have any of this. IF I traveled in uniform, I was NOT one of the popular guys! Most of the riders seem to be from that era, so they remember what it used to be like.
The one family I did meet seemed VERY HAPPY to have the PGR run an escort. In fact, they do NOT ride UNLESS ASKED by the family or someone close to the honored vet.
