  • my new bike

Hey guys, im new to the owners association and frankly dont even know if I belong. My name is Justin, im origionaly from Texas, stationed in Oklahoma City, and currently deployed to Iraq. This is where my story begins. My girlfriend though it would be nice to get me a bike for our anniversary, so she did. She bought me this beautiful Yamaha, but didnt think to inquire about to what kind, year, make, anything. So she sent me some pics of it and im 90% sure I know this bike to be a XS11. I would like to attach a pic for you guys to look at but im not very computer savy. If anyone can tell me how to do this that would be great.
    Thanks

    Welcome Justin.

Your GF has great taste to get you an XS11. Great information and people here.

    When are you coming home?

Yes she does have pretty good taste even if she dosent know it. I think she got a pretty good deal on it, only paid $500. The bike itself only has 27k miles and is perfect mechanical shape and has only 1 small visual blemish. Im still not sure what year it is and still havent found out how to post a picture on here. I should be comming home in April, so i will have a good summers worth of fun with it.

I recently asked the same question about posting pictures. Go to the recent thread titled introduction. I got my explanation there and as you will see, had success.

Have your G/F look at the data plate on the steering head. It will have a production date, and a serial number. Somebody here can tell what it is by the serial number.
You're in Iraq? Be careful, and we all praying for everybody's safe return. You guys are doing a hell of good job. Too bad your CIC isn't though. Where in Texas are you from?

I will have her check it out. Im from a little town called Joshua that sits between Burleson and Cleburne just south of Ft. Worth. I have noticed that there are quite a few people from Texas on here.

Justin, I fianally got to look at the pic. THE BIKE LOOKS LIKE A PIECE OF CRAP! When you get back, you need to call me and I'll get rid of it for you! Your G/F made a bad choice on this one! How could she do such a thing to you? She wasted $500 on that thing?
Just kidding. The bike looks beautiful! If she only paid $500, she got one hell of a good deal! Tell her she done good. When you get back, you ought to head up this way, so I can see this thing in person. Like I said, it really looks great in the pic. Is it a current pic?
Joshua isn't all that far from me. I know some folks who own some property there and are planning on building a house on. They are being bought out by Costco, so they can build a store here in Richland Hills.
                      Stay safe.

Yes the pic was taken im my back yard about 5 days ago. Ill get right on that. In fact I better just give it to you so we dont have to worry about negotiations. I will even deliver it to you. How does that sound to you. I do plan on taking a trip to Texas when i get back. Me and my old man were planning on taking a ride down south to Lake Whitney. Hes got a 2002 V-Star. The only thing Tera (my G\F) said that was wrong with the bike was the housing for the start switch was cracked. How hard is it to find parts for these bikes?

Justin, you're one hell of a good Joe! I'm looking forward to getting it. I tell you what, at least let me give you a couple of bucks for gas.
When you make that Lake Whitney trip, stop by. I live right by IH820 and SH 121/183 in Hurst. Not far from IH35W. The handle bar switch shouldn't be too hard to find. It still works, does't it? Maybe just a new housing is all it needs, and transfer the sitches over.
What's your unit? My wife was in the 101st back in 90-93, and I was in the Navy from 77-82.
                          Stay safe.

Yea Tera would shoot me if she even thought I would sell that thing. But you can still give me some gas money if your offering. I know the place and will be sure to let you know when im going. I dont know if I can keep up with you old folks with all your experience though. You might have to take it easy on me. The switch still works just has some glue on it and if thats the only thing that is rigged on the bike I want to fix it. 332 ECS Air Force Combat Comm.

                              Hey Justin,

I just bought a 78E for $300 and now I'm jealous, I have allready sunk over another $500 into my bike trying to fix what the PO did to the bike. I am stationed at Kirtland AFB working for HQ AFOTEC. I hope to make out to OK some time to see friends I know in the area. Be careful over there and Aim High.
