  • Aftermarket fairing

Good evening fellow XSives; I have'nt been around this joint for awhile but I still have my 78' and its stored till winter is over.......got a question to ask about fairings; Yamaha supplied a fairing as an option in 78' it was a full fairing that somehow was split to alow for steerage, does anyonne have one of these or does anyone know of an aftermarket supplier; I was on a site a few days back airtech I think it was called but I didnt see a product there for XS11s......any feedback appreciated. ThanXS.

Pacifico produced the fairing that was offered with the '78. It was mounted to the frame so that the bars and forks moved free of the fairing. Quite often people sell them and I am sure simeone has one sitting around that they are willing to sell. I have one but am keeping it.

Vetter also made one offered with the '79 and up models.

Never heard of such a critter that split. 78 there was a dealer tour pac option offered by Pacifico and Vetter dealer option for a tour pac in 80. 1981H(Venturer) was a Vetter set-up including side cases, but that was a factory option. I see there is a new Vetter fairing mount on the Bay that is NOS. That would be listed under the Yamaha XS11 NOS stuff. Other than that, can't be of any help.

I think Bruce is talking about the Martini bikes, Nat.

The lower fairing was mounted on the frame, but the upper section mounted on the trees and swivelled with the bars. The design was wind tunnel tested to get the aerodynamics right before fitment to a limited production run in Europe. An original one would be impossible to locate unless still on the bike. $$$$$. Maybe someone made a replica fairing but good luck finding one of them.

It didn't so much "went" to us as it was already here. The Martini was designed by a British bloke John Mockett

Mike Farnworth has a lot of info on the fairings here Clicky

There are two versions of the fairing and they turn up regularly on European ebay sites ......twice a year is regular

Hi Bruce. Just stumbled upon something that's interesting.
If you go to the home page

Move the cursor to the little blue box in the right hand corner

And click on it, the picture at the top of screen changes to a Martini!

Well, a bit of a photo of a Martini. Don't know why it's cut off as both the Standard and Midnight Special options show full photos of the bikes.
Would've been nice to see an RH or Sport option up there as well as they're all XS1100's

                    closing this thread

To close out the thread, if ever i stumble accross a Martini fairing I would get out the calipers and measuring tape and take lots of pics of it then moulding....not likely that will happen, there are few XS1100s in Nova Scotia, and none with Martini fairings.....it would be an intersesting project, I can smell the release agent and fiberglass fumes now! Thanx all for the feedback and interest.

Just spotted another fairing on Ebay UK. Seller says pickup only but I reckon he could be prompted to pack it up and ship it. The price is right. It is a bit tatty, but could even be used for a pattern for you to make your own, and then some. You could end up with one of the classiest XS's in the country.

I dont see the mounting hardware with the martini.

Martini fairings look... different. Not sure I like it.

I put a Vetter Windjammer 4 (SS) on my 78E, along with vetter top and side cases. Looks great, works well, but makes the bike even heavier. I used it in the winter only, took it off for the spring/summer riding.

There is a very similar Yamaha Venturer (or something) model, that you could get with a bigger gas tank and some other goodies. Quite rare.

                        Good luck with the project!
If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.

                          Ebay.UK

I sent a message to the seller on ebay.UK to see if he might reconsider sending the Martini overseas. I'll let you know what he comes back with. I did'nt see the mounting hardwear in the pics but thats not a big issue. How did you ever find the item Eveready? who would ever guess an old item like that would show up on ebay, go figure........Bruce

Careful Bruce, one of the UK lads, Scoobes or Scooby on here, has spotted that the bottom parts are from two different halves of the different versions of that fairing that I mentioned before.
