I see all too often on here, people getting upset in posts. I've recently joined a couple of other forums and I see the same happening there too. A recent post addressing this issue seems to fit the situation here....

I just felt some on here might agree with what he said. Some have a project going and need some help with a 'sticking point', not a bashing of their project. Others post their finished work and ask "so, what do you think?", then get upset that some may not like what has been done.

Hi Pat!

It's the nature of the media. For example, if you an I shared different political views and have a face to face debate, likely everything can go just fine without either of us getting our feelings hurt. Likely, we just end up agreeing to disagree. In this format, that's not so easy. It's a challenge to display our emotions on this page. We make up our own mind what someone else is conveying. As you know, that doesn't always go so well.

On a specialized forum like this I tend to shy away from discussions of family, politics, money, etc. I like to stick to the topic and if I make a comment on a thread I try and say what I think about the topic and offer a remedy or an idea based on some experience I have had. I let the other readers draw their own conclusions from the information I post and leave it at that. If I have nothing positive to say then I do not write anything and that is why you will rarely see more than one post on a thread from me.

Having said that, if I do write something that is obviously wrong I will be the first to admit I was wrong. Just common courtesy.

Thanks for that, Pat. For instance, if a guy posts "Hey, check out my bob-job!", I see no point in someone telling the proud owner that bob-jobs are ugly wastes of a good bike. Just because you think it doesn't mean you have to say it. Just scroll down to another thread....

I bought a Ruger 10/22 last month and they lend themselves to tinkering. The people on the SKS forum are alot like the members here. Some think the rifle should be left stock. Others (like me) have customized or "bubba'd" them.

Hi Pat,
your tinkering won't affect the supply of 10/22s because several variants of the weapon are still flying out of the Ruger plant like popcorn.
Though if you'd bubba'd an irreplaceable antique firearm and asked for comments about that on the SKS forum you may have gotten some harsh comments, eh?

Thanks for the reminder, Pat. Everyone likes to be able to give their input once in a while, especially when they believe they have something of use to others. When a person who has another or different opinion jumps in with a negative attitude about the first person's idea, it gets toxic very quickly. As a friend of Bill W, one of the first things we learn, is to respect the views of others and embrace them.

You know, there is a difference when the person says "check out my bobber" and when they say "what do you think of my new project". When they ask "what do you think" then they are asking for people for opinions, and should be prepared for the fact that they are GOING to get both positive and negative ones.
