  • Winter!

Yesterday it was 61 degrees at my house. Record high for the date in Rockford of 57. Worked on the fish pond & had to feed the fish. They're swimming all over. No Ice at all. In tshirt all day.

Today, 7-8 inches of snow, 25-35 MPH winds, 16 degrees. I guess it really is winter.

Yep, we got our first real snow today as well. And yes, our first real bitter cold of the winter season. I am not at all complaining, especially since they predict back into the 40s next week. Only problem I've had with this winter is that it made it hard to do the annual maintenance on the bike. Hard to take it out of commission when the weather is nice enough to ride.

been 20's in the morning, hi 40's in the afternoon with east winds of about 20 here in the Portland, OR area. They're talking snow maybe next week... Snow in this part of the country is an entertaining sight as most of the people that drive thru the metro area grew up in Southern CA. Panic sets in and they bounce their SUV's off each other and say "I had it in 4 wheel drive"

It can't seem to decide what it wants to do here...
Chilly for a few days and now they're forcasting a high of 71 for Monday.
Planning on taking a ride with John and the girls since they'll be out of school.

Tom - what happens to the fish when the pond freezes? Never having had a pond... just curious.

Snow on the grass, back deck, bushes, trees, and such is all beautiful (at least until the dogs make their yellow and brown patches in it ). However, when snow hits sidewalks, driveways, and streets, it becomes work in the making!

No doubt! 13 inches of it in one day last year made me VERY happy I don't live any place where that is the norm. I think that's the first time I ever had to shovel (broom) snow off the patio cover for fear of it caving in...

                    Pond fish

The fish & frogs burrow down into the very bottom of the pond. I'ts only about 3 ft deep, but it appears the fish generate enought heat from movement to keep the bottom from freezing. Also, right above where the fish stay in the cold a liitle open water stays, maybe opening of 6-12 inches. The rest of the pond usually freezes solid. Not this year. Didn't freeze til yesterday, so, not frozen all the way through yet. If the waters under 50 degrees, the fish metabolism slows way down. Usually don't eat til spring. I've never fed them before, but no food source right now.

26" of lake effect snow last night!
won't be any riding or anything else going on for a while in the Cleveland area.
Too cold to go out in the garage, gonna throw a couple more logs on the fire, wait for spring....or at least something warmer than 15degrees...brrrrr

                        low single digits

It was low single digits here last night, the snow was very crunchy underfoot, a far cry from a week ago. Car starting is getting slow, dont even want to think about what the 79 starter is going to sound like.

Ive got warm enough clothes to tolerate a little riding at ten degrees, dont feel like doing that today. We only have five inches of snow on the ground here though.

Rich, gads, 26 inches of snow at night, that is awful.

I'm a fair weather rider, nothing below 50deg, unless I was caught out in it. Too many joints and bones don't like the cold anymore.
