I don't need glasses, just longer arms.

                  Hey Garth,

I'm an actual Ophthalmic Technician and Surgical Assistant with 30+ years experience!

You didn't say that the 20/50 was the best you could see, or if it was just your vision WITHOUT any corrective glasses?!

The NATIONAL vision standards are only 20/70 vision for day time driving.... with peripheral vision of at least 35 degrees to both the left and right of the center of your vision....total of 70 degrees. And this is just in 1 eye, a person doesn't have to even have the other eye. !!

For night time they are required to be able to see at least 20/40...and the peripheral vision requirement goes up to a total of 100 degrees....again at least 35 degrees to either side of center...we usually can see more to the side of the eye on that side....less towards the nose side....not because of the nose necessarily, but due to the design of the inside of the eye..usually only about 50-60 degrees towards the nose, but usually out to 90 degress towards the ear side for either eye. But again this standard is for only 1 eye, again, other eye can be gone!

These are for Private/personal licenses....for commercial/CDL you have to have 20/40 or better in BOTH eyes, and at least 100 degrees of visual field/side vision....usually handling bigger rigs/cars/trucks and are more dangerous vehicles....so they up the vision requirement for safety!!

If you haven't seen the tech tip in the MISC forum about HOW WE ARE INVISIBLE....you might find it enlightening!

Class "C" is for CARS!! in Can'taffordya! Good new, you need a MOTORCYCLE ticket! (hope you have glasses). I used to have class 1 through 4, before they changed it to class A through M.
Don't feel too bad, though, Garth. I am at this moment hearing ringing in my ears, and have for the past few weeks. We all have our week spots, and father time and mother nature are VERY GOOD at finding them!
                      PS,
I'll be in Oceanside, CA this weekend. Fly down Saturday afternoon to SunDiego, and drive up. Leave Monday late morning. We may try and get down to see you!
