Maybe someone will give me some direction here.

I think I have all the badges for the bike, I know the seat one for sure is gold and I have to see the side cover ones as well. I was wondering if I should look for all new reproduction chrome ones or paint the stock ones in black and red.

It seems to me that the Chrome would just blend in but the red might make it pop.

OK popped the tank and side covers on so I can get excited again

I'm happy with the paint work but it took 4 months to get it back from the shop, I guess that's the price to pay for a good price

So now I have to work on a few more things:
    Exhaust
    Rear set controls
    Seat
Head light conversion and gauges (I hope lol)
    Brakes
    Bars (Clubman's)
    Turn signals
    Brake light
    License plate side mount

Also going to need for a bit of warmer weather to paint the rims gloss black and all the badges red because the old gold ones look god awful and chrome paint looks cheesy.

If you have one it will save me big time.

    Thanks.

I haven't gotten into the electrical yet on mine so I don't know much about the tax/speedo. But if you're looking for a round headlight for cheap find an old bonds 750 headlight. They fit perfect with universal knockoff side mounting tabs. Or just do like me and go really cheap just use the old ones. I got my parts for free.99

I'm only going to go back to the stock square headlight if I can get this to work.

Anyone know where I can get one of these cheap?

Yes, the XS650 has self canceling turn signals. I don't know what was the first year for that.

    XS650 clocks

All XS650s have a mechanical tach. All XS650 Specials have clocks that look just like the XS1100 Special clocks. The XS650 tack can has a hole in the bottom for the cable to come through. The speedometers have different maximum speed until all the bikes got 85 mph units in 1980. XS650 speedometers interchange with the XS1100. The tachometer will not.

The XS650 headlight bucket has a different shape than the XS1100 Special. The XS650 unit is very round.

    Tach

Far i know ( which isn't very far), all 650s had mechanical tachs. You'd have to get a special tach for the 650 set. Not that hard, except a lot of 650s have odd bluish grey color gauge faces. Many also have same color as 1100. You might be lucky.

At least a couple guys have used a round special headlight with the square standard gauges. If your sticking with the standard tank and want to keep the gas gauge you want to keep the gauges, otherwise that part don't matter.
