[XS1100 Newbie]

My XS650 had a mechanical tach. Check those gauges. The Special set would work.

Painter called said the tank and side covers are done. Should have it on Friday and I'll post new pictures.

I've also decided to go with a round headlight and round gauges from a XS650 a friend had. Unless I can get a square headlight fairing I just couldn't get past the square headlight for a Cafe racer lol

That is wicked cool but I'm just trying to get her complete before I dive into something that involved.

I toyed with the idea for replacing the front end with an newer inverted fork system from a newer bike that a friend has but I think keeping it old school looking is where I want to go with this bike.

A couple of ideas that I want to change is the bars I might switch to clubman bars and the headlight from the original squared to a round one. I have a set of clipon's but it looks weird with the top of the triple tree having a mount for bars.

Motolanna has updated their website. They used to have only a couple of fenders, and IIRC, they showed a pic over a tire. They have some cool stuff for XS650/SR500.

Found a fender after someone suggested a XS650 would work, it's not the best of shape but it was free :-)

By luck I was able to get some free time to get working on her again, still waiting on paint on the tank, seat cap and side covers but at least now she sits on the tires. I still want to paint the wheels all black with a red pin stripe.

Looks pretty good man! I am hoping that you are planning on getting either actual clubmans, or switching to clip-ons, though

Here are a few more ideas

As far as weight loss and performance, are you looking to ride in all weather or fair only. If you aren't really worried about rain,I would lose the inner rear fender and the "toolbox". Then you could get a really trick LifePo battery (like Shorai or other), and tuck it in and lose weight and visual weight!

Also, if you need/ want better brakes and handling, look at some of the front ends from the newer 600cc class sportbikes. You can pick up inverted front ends with all the brake stuff for not a whole lot, and get a really modern front end. The XS11's are pretty squirrely at cafe speeds(100+) without making them more rigid, so swing arm bracing and fork bracing would help as well. The 4-1's sing at that range, though!

Just some input, though. Make it yours...I will be following along for sure!

If it fits a XS650 with stock wheel, it will fit the XS11, so long as you don't have leading axle forks.

I bet you it would fit a Special. With those slots, it could be shifted slightly. I have a Standard fender on my Special right now and the rear bolt hole is only about 1/2" off. That is a nice fender, I would like to see a pic of one mounted on a bike though.

Check over in the 'parts for sale' forum and/or post your wants in the 'parts wanted' forum. Here's a 4-1 header... http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34833. For the fender/calipers, you need to specify which forks you're using (looks like standard forks by the triple tree). Battery hold down 'bolt'; if you have the needed top retainer and strap, the bolt is a standard 5mm.

Lookin' good so far... A few comments and thoughts. If you're relocating the ignition box, you'll need to modify the seat pan for clearance. And if you need to get front brakes, you might be interested in something better; look here: http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...=brake+upgrade. Not much more money than buying/rebuilding the stock calipers, and will give a noticable improvement. For brake lines, look into getting new stainless steel lines; the OEM lines are getting pretty long in the tooth...

So I've been way too busy working for the man this year, time to get back to my project this winter so I can ride her this spring.

Tank, side covers and seat cap are out to paint in Gloss Black, Yamaha badges are going to be red to match the frame and engine.

Frame and swing arm are powder coated, triple tree and other flat black parts are also. I have a small home made oven so I'm fortunate enough to be able to powder coat my own parts.
