Well, believe it or not, I do something similar on occasion when I'm running an LDR on boring superslab or local highways. I've attached bootstrap loops to the handlebars just between the grips and controls. I then insert my hands inside the loops and pull back so that I can grip the loops around my wrists and in my hands like a set of reins, and am able to rest my arms/hands in my lap while being able to steer the bike while using the throttle lock/cruise control, countersteering works. I can easily and quickly reach up and grasp the bar grips for full control or to make adjustments as needed. I don't use this technique in any kind of heavy traffic, just when I'm essentially well isolated from other vehicles and a clear view of the road well ahead. Not for the novice rider.

I have never really tried it on a MC, but on a ten speed I can ride with no hands around curves. Those are light enough to correct in a hurry as needed, but a MC is way to heavy and once it is gone, its way to hard to get back safely. I also had friends with mopeds and small off road MCs, I never had one so I would ride my bicycle along side and hold onto their arm or the bike and let them pull me.

Darwinism not quite proven as catastrphy did not occur, but it did prove that there will always be those who favor attention over longevity. Hey, its entertainment for the rest of us, you just have to not lose sleep when Darwinism does eventually get proven. There are some who would say those of us who ride on two wheels are destined to prove it. It was quite the trick pulling himself along side it and climbing back on.

i dont think i would try that particular stunt myself but i have been know to ride no hands with my xj550 and an 84 shadow i had once upon a time. so long as i have a little company, plenty of smooth open road, good visibilty, and the bike is in good shape. you just have to stay sharp. a little coast of to one side or the other takes a lot of lean to control, and vibrations, gravel, roadkill ect. have little mercy. but it is so nice just to be able rest your throttle hand if nothing else. plus the wide eyed stares from passing traffic is priceless. hehehe but seriously one has to stay safe and alert while riding even with full control. good gear is always a plus but in some circumstances may not be enough.
if it has screws in it i am gonna screw with it!

I have a throttle lock on my G, and an OEM rack with the sliding backrest. I slide the backrest forward so I can use it, lock the throttle and lean back to rest. I steer by pushing down on the pegs and leaning a little. I only do this on straight, low traffic roads. Steering input is minmal, just to keep it running in a straight line. It's really quite restful.
