I am guessing if it was a neigbor, they are keeping the car or truck somewhere where you can't see it. If you have some paint on yours form it, I would watch for that color car / truck showing back up soon and the police can run a check to see if it was repaired at a body shop. Good luck, hope you find them. If they were drunk and not wanting to go to jail and lose there driving lic. They may fess up to you soon on their own.
Given that my deductible is 1000 there is no sense in even reporting it. I don't need my insurance even knowing about it even if they don't have to pay for anything. I will however continue to try to find out who did so I can tell them to their face that I know their a dishonest idiot. The lads across the street are still away and with it being the holidays no one is dropping off kids in the morning.

I hope you at least reported it to the cops!
If you did report it at least that would take care of a chunk of the deductible so that if something else happened then you wouldn't have to pay much at that point.

In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.

No I have not reported it. Here in Ontario if no one is injured one only has to report accidents if the damage to one or both cars is 1k or more. This was discovered at a very busy time of the year and I did not have time to drive over to the police station. They will not give out an accident report number over the phone anymore and they will not likely investigate this incident. It will just become a computer file on a server that will never be looked at again.
I will however call them up and comfirm what I read at the police web site.

So I called the Police and they tell me that because it is a hit and run I must report it regardless of the damage. I guess I will be off to see them tomorrow.

Yup, thats what I was getting at. It was not just an accident, it was a crime that occured.

So I got my accident report and contacted my insurance. Good news is that my deductible is actually only 500 and my rates will not change because it is a "fail to remain" accident.
Bad news is that all the parts are back ordered with no indication as to when they will become available.

More good news. The body shop is pretty sure they can buff out the paint damage but the rear bumper, one bumper support and the tail light are toast. They also do not anticipate any unusual delay getting the parts.
