  • Would you let people know your real name?

Would you use an optional Real Name field in your member
    profile it it existed?

I wouldn't, but then my username IS my real name

My concern with this poll is the lack of information about this possible feature. The Real Name block would apparently be visible to anyone who is on the list. And now I can't remember if it was mentioned whether a NON-logged in person could read the posts, but just could not post or reply?? And if they can, then they might be able to click on the PROFILE button and find your real name just as easily. I have always used pseudonyms for my online activities, for personal privacy and protection against all the whackos out there!! SO....until I know that ONLY the list members would be able to view the profile info, then I might be inclined to use the Real Name block, otherwise no. Just my little opinion.

What would the real name block be used for? If it was something like Steve Maupin's assistance list, it might be a good idea. I use my real name most places, given my e-mail address (jerryfields@mac.com) isn't to hard to figure out ....

I would use it, but only if it were to be used to benefit other owners some how.

But you're the only one who can see your email

                Real name?

I agree with TopCat on his statement No, " for personal privacy and protection from Whackos". As for the XS11 list ONLY, I wouldn't have much of a problem with it.

I really don't care who sees my real name. I use it as my username and as paranoid as I am (I am computer Geek afterall), I don't worry about "whackos" ect. I've been doing this since "ARPNET" and have never (knock wood) had a problem. Now, if the question were "would you consider posting your credit card number for everyone to see?" then my paranoia would kick in turbo drive.

Well, since the vast majority said that they would use an optional Real Name field in your member profile it it existed, I made one.

Just go to the UserCP > Edit Profile and look a little below the Yellow "Additional Information" bar. That's where the new OPTIONAL Real Name field is.

I have no problem with anyone knowing that my name is Kline P Duplechin. If there is a "Wacko" out there intent on doing me harm, or even worse calling me during supper (not dinner, served at usually 6 PM) then, hell, don't give them my name.
