Looks interesting, here is a site that gives an outline of what the book is about. $40 is a bit steep though.

"...tells the story of numerous and exciting cross-country rides by the author, as well as what it takes to build, modify, ride and maintain the XS Eleven."

I wonder how much of it is technical and how much of it is riding experience?

If it was written for the general public or bike riders in general who might appreciate a good story, then the XS technical stuff would be wasted. Or was it targeted for us 'XS'ers?"

We already have some great and varied riding stories right here from many folks, and LOTS of technical stuff, too.

I wonder if it is coming out in paperback?

Heck I just might order it anyway, out of curiousity. Besides, I DO admire what he can do to an XS...

Please forgive me if I'm wrong.... but I almost get the impression of the book being simply a means for Mr. Jones to "toot his own horn". I'd also be curious as if the publishing company paid for the rights to publish this book or if it is just one of the many "vanity presses" out there that offer an avenue for anyone who wants to pay for it to get published.

The final lines of the description of the book leave me to believe that it is more about his personal anecdotes than anything substantial. "You're going to like this story, because there are good guys and bad guys, plenty of action and adventure, and even some technical stuff."

I think the book is targeted at XS owners. This guy knows how passionate XS owners are about owning one of the best bikes ever made. I'm betting that he believes most or all of the sales of the book will be from members of this site.

I am thinking of giving him a call asking him to post a chapter on his site as an e-book (PDF) so we can "try" before we buy. Since I work for Adobe, I know how to create it and would be willing to do it for him in exchange for a copy of the book.

Has ANYBODY read it??? It doesn't sound like it to me. I wish some one would then maybe we could figure out if it was worth that much. Wonder if it has photos and if they're in color. I bet there are a lot of people who could tell a "bookworth" of tales right here on this site!!!!

Maybe its just this past week of -25 degree weather and last summer's riding season becoming a dimmer and dimmer memory, but all this talk about Bob Jones' book finally convinced me to just go ahead and order it today. Heck, I think I just paid $35 for the last hardcover science fiction/fantasy book I bought, and it was not signed and numbered by the author. If can't ride, at least I can read about riding.

BTW, Dragonrider, drop me a PM, I'm still interested in acquiring a signed copy of your book too....

On his site > it tells, he was a franchised Yamaha dealer for 17
years. Ceased being one in 1982. Yamaha sued him and tried
to put him in jail .

I wonder what that was all about. And, I wonder if he expands on it in the book. (???)
Hope he tried to get 'em in trouble about the
spacer being in the wrong place in the
                              transmission......... (??)
