  • VPN Problems

So my wife is having issues with logging onto her work VPN, pretty much started when we got a new laptop for her (Windows 7 with IE9 and Google Chrome for browsers). When I try and download the needed file, it is a Citrix ICA file that is saves as a .jsp file, IE9 claims the file has a virus (no it doesn't) and will not allow me to download it. When I try downloading it in Chrome it downloads the file but when I click to open the file it attempts to open the file in a PDF viewer.

    Any ideas?

Do you have the citrix client software installed? If not, the OS doesn't know what the do with the citrix ica file, and for some reason the jsp extension appears to be registered to the pdf viewer. AFAIK windows 7 doesn't know anything about citrix by itself, it needs some additional software downloaded and installed first.

      Try changing extensions

Download and save as jpg for instance, then later in files change extension back to .jsp

Download the citrix reciever from citrix.com, or after you save it with chrome, right click the jsp file and choose open with internet explorer. One of these should work. Alternately, take the laptop to her work IT dept and let them mess with it.

Which Cisco client are you trying to use?

            Take a look at:

            http://vpn.kcpl.com/

This page has client downloads and install instructions.

Do you have Java disabled in IE? JSP is a Java applet. Do you know what kind of router the VPN connects to? You may be able to skip the jsp file and use a client to connect to the vpn.If you know the IP address of her work, you may be able to just browse to it in IE and connect that way.

That might be the other point, if the Java runtime is not installed then the java applet won't run no matter what browser or whatever is used to get it onto the computer. The java runtime doesn't ship with windows 7, so you need to go and download and install it from Sun and this might fix the problem, and it's possible all the VPN options all need the java runtime to work.

Java is installed and is enabled. Don't know what Cisco client for sure.

Laptop is going to have to go back to HP (second time in the 2 months we have had it for the same problem that they didn't fix the first time) so this is going to be put on hold full it comes back again.

I hate HP. Won't touch them with a 10 foot pole. Personally I run Dell, have had good luck with them. I've had trouble with everything HP I've ever worked with, but home and work.

I agree. We run only Dell at work, I run either Apple or home built at home.
(I spend all day making Windows computers work. I go home and don't want to deal with it. At least when my Mac or Linux boxes break, it adds some variety)
