Working with 1 1980 XS1100 Special. Like many I am having problems with pinching off lines. I've had it twice to the point where a leak was created around the clamps. to avoid such a tight turn can I run the left petcock to the right pair of carbs and vice versa??

Yea, I dont see why that would be a problem. All comes from the same tank. Only reason why it has two petcocks is because there is such a high "hump" in the middle of the tank. You'd run dry on one side, but have plenty of fuel in the other side ...~Jay

Working with 1 1980 XS1100 Special.
If it's a standard (with 2 petcocks) then I think the normal routing is across.
ie. left cock to the right side carbs and vice versa.
That's how I've got mine routed.
i think I saw a tech tip that had filters in-line that has a pic showing.
Here it is: http://www.xs11.com/xs11-info/tech-t...l-filters.html
It shows the line going back to the same side.Hi, my name is George & I'm a twisty addict!

Right to left and left to right.
It seemed like every time I had the tank off and back on two miles down the road and I'm runnin on two cylinders. Pinched one of the lines, you see. Anyway I finally bought longer lines and just criss crossed em to keep em straight and it works good. And because the lines are longer when I go to sync the carbs I just pick up the tank and face it backwards where the seat goes.

Special and standard both have two petcocks, and both can benefit from the longer lines crossed to feed the carbs on the opposite side from the petcock. It's not the stock configuration, but many have found it to be the one that works the best and has the least chance of kinking the lines when putting the tank back on, and as mentioned, it lets you just turn the tank around the put it where the seat normally is for syncing the carbs.Cy
