ot i need more power

So my house was built in 56 and I want to use my hi tech devices I have a flatscreen DVD DVD and Xbox buying don't have enough juice to run everything What can I do? ?? I do have a surge protector power strip

Maybe trade out an old breaker or two for the slim line breakers, freeing up some space to add more circuits. Or call up Classic Electric in El Cajon and have Marty send out some guys to upgrade your panel. Or add a subpanel. Or trade out with someone who can do the work, maybe clean carbs or do a second gear fix for some electrical work.

Hi Garth,,,,one of these days I could stop by and rewire some more outlets from existing little used lines. Do you have an attic or crawl space? It could use another line or two, connected to a line that isnt being used much. The load on the one line is too much,,,,,so I suggest run another line, box to the tv,dvr area to free up some needed juice. If Scott is coming down,,,,I can meet you there with the electrical stuff needed,,,as He might have a couple of carb floats I need to get the blue xs fixer going. Two of the floats are crushed and leaking, not good for running, especially with the big bore kit in it. The beauty of house ownership is you will never get bored from fixing and upgrades until you are horizontal...........see ya, Mike

Hey Garth, ok, time for the disclaimer, I am not a licensed electrician or an electrical engineer, but I play one REALLY well.

The first step is to see what size panel you have feeding the house, you did change it out to a breaker panel right? The main breaker being the one in the top middle. Now add up the sub breakers under it, it should not be to much over the size of the main breaker, there is some diversity in the load of your house, so depending if one is for say electric heat, and another for AC, then those two should never run at the same time, so only count the larger of those.

If you have some space left in the panel, and you have some load left on the main, then you can simply add a breaker to the panel, and run new wire from it to whatever outlets you need. I am not familiar with California code or your local jurisdictions, but typically, unless you are in a garage or basement area on the walls, you do not need to run conduit, you can simply run the "romex" exposed. But it should go through wall studs, and you would want to put a metal strap over the spot where the wire runs through so no one inadvertantly puts a screw or nail through the wire. Then just cut in electrical boxes in the wall and pull the new wire to them through the wall. Add a receptacle and hook up the wire to the new breaker.

All that sounds so easy, but in reality is a PITA job at the least. And if you need to break the wire, say run to more than one outlet, you need to do that in an accesible junction box.

OK, that is all I know about electrical.....ok...not really...but plenty for a beginner to think about and work on.

I might be able to fix the floats Mike has but I'd have to take a look at 'em. I've been planning a ride south for a while now but I guess it's a good thing I haven't done it. I need a tail light and signals for my new bobber....

DGXSER is correct, but without seeing the breaker panel its hard to judge what is needed, but it can always be done, Home Depot parts to the rescue and lots of wire additions.......SCOTT HAS A BOBBER??????? OH NO, ROO is corrupting the XS STANDARD CREW!!!!!!!

I got the broken frame stubs welded this afternoon so I put the saddlebags and luggage rack back on. I'm a happy camper again and Columbo should be happy until, oh, at least five minutes before I leave for another ride.
