  • Trailer advise

I got the bug (the barn find one) and want to get an inexpensive trailer.
If you guys have any recomendations I would appreciate it.
I could do some welding if needed.

Tow vehicle would be 97 Jeep Gran Cherokee.

What do you think of these?

    4x6 too small

    Rick,

I think you will find the 4x6 too small. While technically its long enough to hold the XS, you will want a tail ramp and clearance at the rear to fold it up. I have a 5x8 with a ramp rear and its just big enough. And its wide enough for 2 bikes (barely) that arent baggers.

Mine has 14" 5lug wheels with heavy duty trailer tires and they are only rated 2650 lbs max(combined)... 2bikes plus gear and trailer is about that.

15" wheels gives you more tire options.

My ramp also folds down on itself in half so it doesn't stick up high like that one you showed.

Personally I like flat trailers vs MC channel ones so it can be multi-purpose.

All the ones you showed will tow easy enough with Grand Cherokee.

      Wayne

The listing in Wayne loOks like a converted boat trailer and likely heaviest rated axles.

+1 on the flatbed vs. channels.

I've been involved in a few motorcycle moves (wayback) and it is one hell of a lot easier to load and secure a bike when you aren't tightroping along those channels. You don't want to have your foot slip on one of those when you are wrestling a 600lb. bike. BTDT

          Rick:

I bought a used (built 96) 16' tandem axle utility trailer about 5 years ago for $750.I had to replace the deck ( about $60.00)
I've got 2 bike chocks mounted in the front, but could haul 4 with no problem. Have done 3,all xs1100's.
Got rid of the pick up & pull it with a v8 suv. 20 MPG

Best buy I ever made. Use it for lumber, dirt, hauled a model A ford from Mo with it. Etc.
Don't go too small. You'll use it for many other things.

So it looks like somthing like this one would be the best.
Has a ramp which is a plus.

Basically what are the rules on titles and lights?

What kind of mods would I need to use this one?

I have ramps (2x10's with the metal piece to rest on the trailer)

                Is it feasible ?

Man, you should let Randy borrow it. It kind of looks like a boat hull and that might help with all those highway overpasses that have turned into fords.
