Saw this on CL today http://lincoln.craigslist.org/mcy/2567395433.html. Feel sorry for the guy but is anybody really going to rent a guy his bike for two weeks? He doesn't currently even have a motorcycle license. I wonder why he can't just drive a car. I support vets and have several in my family but couldn't do this for anyone.
Would you rent your bike?

Probably
If it was near me I have a bike (Rising Sun) I'd probably do that with....not so much for the money but just because....

Nope.
I feel for the guy, but wonder how after owning several bikes, he doesn't know anybody who could rent or even lend him a bike. Perhaps his friends know better.
Also, if he gets himself or somebody else killed, it's on your head.Only the owner of a vehicle can insure it. As mom always says, "It's the vehicle that's insured, not the driver." (She's also my insurance agent.)Pat K

While the story is compelling, there are to many parts of it that just do not add up. For me, I smell a scam, but I am a pessimist anyway.
Even if it all were true, I would be more inclined to find a $50 "parts" bike that could be made to run and buy it for him, and HELP HIM fix it than to rent him mine.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

if it was someone I knew and trusted, sure. But not for a stranger.
What I'd advise the guy to do is buy a bike from a dealer on minimum down and long term payments, use it for the trip and walk away from the deal afterwards.Fred Hill, S'toon

Hi Joe,
not honest? Neither are dealers and finance companies.
"As you sow also shall you reap."
Besides, I'm not saying he should keep the bike and skip on the payments.
Simply leave it outside the dealers when he's done with it.

my elegant scheme is only needed in a Capitalist system.
In a true Socialist system there would be bikes available for the asking. Mind you, it'd probably be a 125cc 2-stroke and you'd have to fill out the requisition forms 6 months ahead of time.Fred Hill, S'toon

Wow, that's an interesting approach. Don't think his credit rating is going to enjoy that. The real question why wait so long before getting your poop in a group, he should have been considering options months ago. Kind of makes you wonder who your dealing with. Also I just started riding after 11 years and my license still had my motorcycle endorsement on it so what's up with him needing to get his endorsement. Or he could just break down and pay the rental fees that places willing to rent want. He probably can't do your suggestion because he isn't credit worthy.Cy

I'm guessing if he could find a motorcycle rental place anywhere they would want to see he had a motorcycle license. He should have scraped together $900 bucks, bought a running bike and then sold it when he came back. Several people offered to rent him their bikes but he could not afford (or thought it too much) so I am guessing he's looking for a free ride...literallyCurrent Daily Rides / Projects
