  • A few more pictures...XS1100SF

I'm sure all of you are getting tired of my posts of my old '79 Special. I wish I had taken more "before" pictures as it really was ready for the scrap heap when I brought it home a couple months ago. I completed a few more little cosmetic things on it, so I thought I'd take some finished pictures. I figure I've got a nice bike that isn't so pristine that you're afraid to ride it, but decent enough to show well.

There are a few things left to do, braided steel brake lines etc., but I'd say it's 99% done.

A big thank you to my wife Sara for her patience during this whole process.

Also thank you for all the help I've received on these forums. This is the friendliest most civil motorcycle site out there.

That bike is lookin' GREAT bell. Are those pics recent?

Looks like the weather is still holding up there in Idaho.

Very nice example of a stock 79SF. Everything looks OEM and no mods.

It takes a lot of work to make a 30+ year old machine look that nice. I hope it runs as well as it looks! Give yerself a pat on the back.

I'll bet there aren't many XS11s running around yer part of Idaho!

Thank you for the kind words guys.

BA80, yes I took the picture on the same day as the post, Sunday the 14th. And yep the weather has been nice in SW Idaho, 90s yesterday.

bikerphil, I like the look of a factory stock bike. Even when I buy off the showroom floor I tend to buy factory accessories.

Shacknasty, there are a few XS1100s in Idaho. We gotta keep these old bikes alive. Nothing against Harleys and Sportbikes, but they all look the same after a while. These old muscle bikes stand out from the crowd and look good.

crazy steve, thank you it is a feeling of accomplishment. I feel like I took a bike that would have continued to deteriorate, and probably would have ended up as parts on eBay, and kept it on the road for years to come.

These bikes are special (no pun intended). The KZ1000 LTDs and GS1100s and these XS1100s come from an era when high horsepower was king. And yes I know in this era of 175 HP bikes these machines may not seem all that powerful, but they'll hold there own against 90% of whats out there, and they do it with style. This XS1100SF will be in my garage long after my FJR is traded in on whatever new bike strikes my fancy. I intend to find a nice 1st gen Vmax to park next to it too.

WOW...I mean WOW. Having taken one form a barn/field and put it back into service, trying to get back to stock with it, and trying to make it look as nice as I could, I know what it takes to make one shine like that!!

I bet some of them did not look that good on the show room floor!!! Excellent work!!
