  • Opinions?

    Hi list,
    in another string DGXSER sez:-
I for one do not think that posting a pic of your bike should equate to asking the world if they like your color selection or what add ons you have put on the bike, or your hair style for that matter.
I for another think that posting a pic of your bike does indeed equate to asking the world's opinion on it.
And while a balding white-haired semi crew-cut is not for everyone, if I ever posted a pic of my hairstyle I'd expect comments about that too.
    Anyone?

I figure if an opinion is asked, then it's ok to offer one. But just posting a pic shouldn't have to invite a critique of whatever you've done.

However, posting a picture of your bike, right after a post of a picture of another bike asking how something was done stating you don't like how the rear fender looks on your bike, is IMHO asking for opinions on how it looks and for ideas on how to improve the look and accomplish the look desired (maybe with whatever the other bike did, or with an alternate method).

We used to have a member that would scrutinize any photos posted, and make "fun" comments about things in the background, etc.! Nowadays with Facebook, photobucket, etc., folks have gotten used to the "public" style of participation and expect comments on what they have posted.

I would hope that folks "HERE" would be mature and courteous enough to keep their unsolicited comments on the polite side!

BTW, does this bike look too small for me?

If you look on the side of those knobbys, it says "Not for highway use", and there you are, on pavement, without a helmet. CZ

              Hi TC,
I seem to remember you saying you are 6'-7" tall so everything looks too small for you.
What's more important is; will it fit in the trunk of your car?

                  Fred,

I can report that when I post videos on Youtube, I disable "commenting" by the great unwashed masses. It's not that I really wish to exclude all those who would offer their insights. But opening the "door" to all comments lets in those who would use the comments as a means to insult, abuse, and otherwise verbally attack. I've viewed many crass and mean spirited comments that get posted to the comments section of other youtube users.

                  crass (krs)
                  adj. crass·er, crass·est
So crude and unrefined as to be lacking in discrimination and sensibility.

                  mean-spir·it·ed or mean·spir·it·ed (mnspr-td)
                  adj.
Having or characterized by a malicious or petty spirit.

Therefore I chose to disable "commenting" as a pro-active measure.

Here on Channel 11 there are no such settings. Anyone and everyone can "contribute/comment" in the way they see fit at the time. Unfortunately, sometimes the "contributions" can be offered with the intention of starting/continuing a "tug-o-war" or "Head-butting" where the issue(s) are never intended to be resolved.

In those threads I simply Bail out if I'm a participant. As the "end-point-User" of this forum I see it as my responsibility to use my own "filters" and act accordingly if I'm convinced the contributions made by another member are crass or mean-spirited.

As far as my making own "contributions" or choosing to remain silent? From my end the "offerings" are always made with a conscious effort to aid/inform/entertain another member.

Even then there's no guarantee that on the receiving end what I offer will be welcomed by the original "thread-starter" or by the other participants.

Regardless of how beneficial it would be to them or how badly they need it.
