I have a 1980 XS650 hardtail (just like everyone else) that needs an engine overhaul. Its pretty much a pile of parts that I am taking my time going through.

I got tired of just working and having nothing to ride so I bought a 1979 XS11 from a good guy for a great price. Looking forward to riding and working on it.

      Hi 'zed and welcome,
you may be bright but you ain't as bright as the skilled engineers who developed rear suspension. It's too late for your XS650 but leave your XS11's arse end alone.

          - - - there's an ad in the CVMG newsletter offering a rolling pile of rust stuck motor & no papers '72 XS650 in Espanola Ontario.
But at least it will have rear suspension.
Also coincidentally I will be in Espanola the 3rd week of this month. Or contact him yourself:-

I'll have to take some pics of the new bike another day but here is the hardtail semi-finished.

I am feeling some hate coming from the softails.

You have got to keep in mind that I am young and have foolishly convinced myself that I (to include my lower back and tail bone) am invincible.

Also, sleep easy knowing that I have no plans to cut on this frame.

I took it for a 45 minute ride tonight. It has worse tranny issues then I was lead to believe. It took half the trip for gears to line up and let me get to second gear OR third gear. It was hard to build up speed having to jump the gears. Atleast thats what I think was happening. The battery is shot too. I am have my fingers crossed there isn't a charging issue.

Overall, I really like this bike. Even with the issues it was a solid buy.

The hard tail looks nice. Save it for trips to the bar and run the hell out of the xs11 on the road. Those 650 are hard to ride on long trips anyway shocks or not. Welcome

                  Hi 'zed,
we don't hate you, it's more a mixture of pity and contempt.
BTW, the XS650 photo shows you have also abandoned that other great leap forward in bike design, the front brake.
I trust you are going to put a rear fender on that XS650?
If you don't, the first big bump you hit will bounce you off the seat to let you land on the rear tire which will carry you forward to have the seat's rear edge rip your nuts off.

                        Hi Brian,
as my 74th birthday is only weeks away, I'm more afeared of broken bones than I am of genital mutilation.
Hopefully the thought of getting his nuts ripped off will frighten a younger person into fitting a rear fender.

At my age, and after being married for half of it, just about anythings better than sex now. Memory fades with age, so i'm having trouble remembering what it was like, so riding the bike's the next best thing... (if memory serves correctly.... )
